The front door creaked open.
It was the cream that Virgil had heard so many times before. It was going to be the first thing he and Roman fixed as a married couple.
Virgil stood up, still shaking.
He put the ring back on, wiping tears from his eyes.
"Virgil? I'm home," a voice called out.
Virgil dragged his feet as he walked down the hallway.
And suddenly he was holding on for dear life to the person who had entered, his face buried in their shoulder.
"Virgil? Are you okay?"
Virgil cried harder.
"Ro," Virgil said weakly.
"I missed you so much."
Roman looked at Virgil confused, but hugged him tightly anyway.
"And you say I'm a drama queen," Roman said, smiling sadly as he heard a small chuckle from Virgil. "I was only away for the weekend for my theatre."
"Hey, Vee," Roman said softly. "Look at me. Please."
Virgil slowly looked up at Roman. He knew his eyes were red from sobbing, but didn't expect to see the mist of tears in Roman's eyes.
"I will never leave you," Roman said. "Never."
"I love you."
Virgil didn't know who said it. It may have been him, it may have been Roman.
Maybe it was both of them.

Virgil nodded into Roman's shoulder.
