John's POV
Early October"Hey, we're going to a haunted house. Wanna come?" Laf grinned, I glanced at my homework and sighed.
"Well...these equations aren't gonna solve themselves."
"So?"
"So I don't care about them. Let me get dressed." Laf grinned and left the room. I changed out of my pj's into a light blue hoodie and black ripped jeans. I joined Laf, Herc, and Peggy in the sitting room and we piled into Herc's car. Laf and Herc are my roommates and Peggy is my best friend. The four of us hang out all time. "Uh...Guys?"
"Yeah?"
"I've never been to a haunted house."
"Oh, you'll be fine. Just say 'no boo' if you don't wanna be scared." Herc explained.
"Ok." We arrived at the place and paid before going in. We milled through the halls and it wasn't all that scary. They had themed rooms, meaning every room was based off one monster. There were zombies, mummies, witches and the last one was vampires. When we entered the room there was a coffin with a body in it propped up facing us in the corner of the room. When the door closed behind us the body's eyes flickered open. I jumped a bit and Laf smirked at me.
"Help! Help me! Please! You have to help me!" The actor wailed.
"Wow, this is the best actor yet." Peggy hummed, I nodded in agreement and the actor struggled against his restraints.
"I'm not an actor! Please! You have to help me! They're gonna come back!" He was now fighting hard enough to hurt himself and I glanced at Laf. We started toward the exit and the boy yelped. "No! Wait! Please! Please don't leave me here! I don't wanna die!" He screamed, sobbing now. I paused and looked back at him. He seemed like he was in pain and the skin around the shackles on his wrists, ankles, and neck looked...burnt.
"Uh...Hey, Laf?"
"What?"
"I don't think he's faking."
"Wow. Ok. You really haven't been to a haunted house. He's just an actor."
"Laf, all of the actors have been awful and he looks terrified." Laf contemplated this for a moment and I approached the boy.
"Who's gonna come back?"
"I-I don't know. Please! Just get me out of here!" He cried.
"I don't know, John-" Herc started.
"PLEASE! THEY'RE GONNA KILL ME! I DON'T WANNA DIE! PLEASE HELP ME!" He screamed, wrestling with the restraints.
"Laf, he's gonna break his arm. I don't think he's joking." One of his shackles fell lower on his wrist and his skin started smoking as he screamed in pain.
"Ok, I don't think he's faking." Laf moved forward and I started pulling on the restraints. I got one of his arms free and Herc joined Laf and I in freeing him. We got him free and he fell against me. I scooped him up and he lulled back in my arms. We hurried out before anyone noticed we'd taken him and jumped in the car. He sat between Peggy and I in the back and he seemed to be getting drowsy. He slumped against me and I gasped a bit.
"We need to get him to a hospital."
"No!" He managed. "No hospital."
"What? Are you crazy? We have to take you to the-" He lifted his head and brandished a pair of fangs at me. My eyes widened and his head fell again. "No hospital."
"What!" Laf glanced at us and Herc turned around to look at us.
"He's a vampire. We can't-"
"Oh, fuck." Vampires are wildly discriminated against and they're treated awfully. Laf drove home and we rushed the boy into the living room, laying him on the couch.
"What are we gonna do with him?" Peggy asked.
"I...don't know." I sighed, something came to mind and glanced around at the other three. "Hey, buddy." I hummed as I crouched next to him and his dull eyes wandered up to look at me. "When was the last time you fed?" Peggy glared at me and the boy didn't answer. "Ok...I think he needs to feed like now."
"Not it!" All three of them yelped immediately. I rolled my eyes and got up.
"In my Vampire studies class we learned that vampires can drink coconut water in place of blood." I hummed, heading to the kitchen. "And I-due to plot convenience-just happen to have some." I hummed, holding up the cartoon of coconut water. I rushed back to the boy and opened the carton. He whined and tried to swat it away. "Stop it. Drink it. It'll help." He gave in and drank the whole carton. "Good. Get some rest." He fell asleep almost immediately and I sighed, straightening up.
"What the fuck are we gonna do with him?" Herc asked.
"I'll take care of him." I hummed.
"Great." Laf huffed.
"Thank god I don't live here. Have fun you three." Peggy skipped out and I rolled my eyes. I scooped the boy up and took him to my bedroom, laying him in my bed. I've always kind of thought vampires are cool and now I get to take care of one.
