Alexander's POV

"Captain!" I jolted up as the hammock rocked and sighed. "What?" I muttered, reaching for my coat and hat. "There's something you need to see." I frowned but slid out of the hammock and followed Lafayette up to the deck. I saw my crew gathered around the port side and frowned. They seemed to be wrestling with something in a neat. One of the men moved and a beautiful royal blue tail flopped on the deck. "Captain, this thing's been following us for about an hour." Eliza reported, I postioned my hat on my head and made my way over. Eliza shifted over and my eyes widened. Tangled up in the neat was a merman but not just any merman...An old friend of mine.    "That's enough." I barked, the merman looked up at me and let out a sigh of relief. "Alexander, it's good to see you." He smiled breathlessly. "You know this one?" Hercules asked. "I used to." I muttered bitterly. "Throw it back." The crew nodded curtly and began trying to throw him overboard. "Wait! Please! Alexander! I need to talk to you!" He begged, fighting against my crew. "Hold on a moment." I sighed, they let go of him and he looked up at me. "What?" "Um-...You look well." "I will skin you. Do you know how much your scales would go for in the trade?" I grinned, earning so laughs from the crew. "Enough with the pleasentries. Get to the point." "Alright...We're dying." I raised an eyebrow and he sighed. "Lee stole the Heart and now...Everything is dying. The coral, the animals...us." "You look fine to me." I shrugged, turning to inspect the sails as I heard it whipping in the wind. "Look!" He turned and my eyes widened slightly. Running from the top of his neck down his back and arms were dark black tenrdils. It was definitely a magical affliction and there probably wasn't a cure. "What the fuck is that?" "No one knows. Not even Martha." He huffed. "Does it hurt?" "Only sometimes. If we don't stops this it'll spread throughout the ocean." "Why do I care?" "Because it'll affect you whether or not you have legs." He huffed, I raised an eyebrow and Eliza tugged on my arm. "Alex-..." She hissed, nodding to speak privately. I nodded and I followed her toward the mast. "We have to do something about this. That's unlike any magic I've ever seen." "I know." "You have to do this, Alex. What would we do without you?" "Well...As first mate-" "I'd be captain. I don't wanna be captain. We want you to be our captain." She reasoned. "You gave us all a home. We can't loose you." I sighed heavily and nodded. "Tighten the sail, please?" "Aye, aye, captain." She grinned as I headed back towards the merman tangled in the net. "What do I get if I help you?" "Life?" "Pirates don't do things for free, Laurens." I hummed. "Fine...You can have me." "I'm sorry?" "I know you're still mad...You can do whatever you'd like to me." He mumbled, I grinned and crouched before him. "Don't you need Washington to above this?" I feigned a pout and he looked me in the eye. "Washington is dying." I raised an eyebrow and he sniffed. "I know you hate us. I know you blame me." "It was your fault." "I know-" He whispered. "-but I'm begging you... Help us and you can have me." "Alright then." I grinned, standing back up and fixing the sword on my belt. "Hercules, change our course. Heading northeast now. The rest of you put him in the hull." Lafayette, Angelica, and Peggy grabbed the net and started dragging John down below. I headed to the bow and a peer out across the sea as the ship turned northeast.

John's POV

I tumbled down the stairs and glared up at the humans at the top. They slammed the door and I heard a lock click. I drew my tail into my chest and leaned against the wall. After what felt like hours the door was flung open and Alexander trotted down the steps. He drew a dagger from his belt and I gasped. "Why now?" He asked lowly, walking slowly toward me with the dagger hanging loosely in his hand.
"Look. I'm sorry. What happened was wrong but-"
"Shut up. I don't wanna hear it." He growled, I started trying to inch away but he grabbed my tail and pulled me back. "Get over here." He started for my tail with the dagger and I gasped, starting to try to wiggle free.
"Alexander, please-"
"Oh, quit your whinning. Hold still. You're gonna make me cut you." He cut the neck away from my tail and I sighed with relief. "We're docking in the morning and I'm not leaving you on my ship alone. He tossed some tattered looking clothes and I frowned. "This-" He muttered, presenting a blue amulate from his pocket and crouching before me. "-will help you with that." He gestured to my tail and stood up. "Get dressed and come above deck when you've finished." He made his way to the door and I frowed at the amulate in my hand. "Oh...And one more thing, you're on my ship now so you follow my rules."
"Thank you."
"Whatever." With that he left and I bit my lip. I clipped the amulet around my neck and I felt a tingling feeling in my tail. I looked down at it and gasped. In place of my tail were a pair of legs and I nearly ascended. I grabbed the clothes and got dressed before struggling to my feet. I stumbled toward the stairs for ten seconds before falling flat on my face and groaning. I pushed myself back up and huffed. I made it up the stairs and stumbled onto the deck. The ship rocked and I fell back on my butt, causing others to look over in confusion.
"Captain!" One of the girls call, Alex peered over a balcony and sighed.
"Relax." He called down, sliding down the rails of a latter and making his way toward me. "I gave him the amulet I stole from that siren bitch." He grumbled.
"You stole th-"
"You're questioning me?"
"No." I mumbled, looking away as he pulled me off the ground.
"Captain, can we break out the booze?" Hercules grinned.
"Absolutely." Alex grinned, he sat me on a cargo box and grabbed some rope. He tied one side to a handle on the box and pulled the rope over my new legs, tying the other side of the rope to the handle a little tight. "To keep you in place." He muttered, moving away. I just sat quietly while everyone went about their business.
