17: Everything...Okay?

Louis and I are sitting on their porch; I could hear the TV on in the living room with Millie's (Louis' sister)voice like she's asking for something.

There is interminably long silence between the two of us, only the wind's blowing sound hitting the leaves of every tree around us.

He speaks first. "It isn't what you think, Sunny; I swear."

I take a moment to gather my thoughts together, think of a way to stir things back to the way they were.

"When we started, I felt happy because I was helping you. But being with you in a different perspective brought me to a different world."

I meant what I said, everything did change when we started fake dating. I mean, it wasn't just birthday traditions and arcade weekends anymore. It was parties, dances, games, and more.

"In the beginning, I was so scared. Scared that I would lie to every single person in my life. But at the same time, I still wanted to there for you. I still wanted to next to you, showing you how much I love you as my only best friend."

After that Louis' eyes were soft. I've never seen him this genuine. Perhaps it was time for me to see that underrated side of him.

"Then do it."

I make my voice light. "So, we're still doing it? I mean, do you still want to?"

"I saw you, both of you." I begin, "You were holding her; with a huge smile on your face. You and Toni seem to be together already."

I just stare at him, waiting for him to reply as his face falls. "I'm afraid I cannot tell you."

"Then I can't be your girlfriend again."

"Please. Give me one last chance. If I don't make this right―"

"We'd fight again?" I continued.

"We broke so easily Louis. We were just friends. Nothing more, nothing less."

"I won't let that happen again." He promised.

Hope was rising in me. But I remembered in the contract, NO SECRETS. I let him go away with it. He broke his word. That doesn't matter anymore. I'm back to HELPING LOUIS IS MY ONLY INTENTION.
