He was going to do it. He was really going to do it.
Mako stood outside Chai's door, his hand raised to knock. But he stopped, his fist just hovering over the metal door. He had just headed over to Chai's room after his talk with Bolin, no real plan set in mind. He hoped that the words would just flow out but now, as he stood outside Chai's room, his mind was drawing a blank.
"Hey, Mako."
Mako jumped, turning around to find Chai standing behind him.
"Chai! Uh, Hi-hey, hi Chai."
He gave an odd smile folding his arm as he placed his elbow against Chai's door, leaning his head against his fist.
Chai smiled biting her lip due to Mako's strange behavior.
"Hey to you too. What are you doing outside my door?" Chai asked
"I was looking for you. But I guess that wouldn't have worked since you know, you weren't in your room," Mako said
"Yeah, I was hanging out with Huan," Chai said
"Oh really?" Mako's awkward smile turns into a more tight-lipped one.
"Yeah," Chai struck a rather funny pose. "He said he wants to capture me in a new art medium. So he's gonna paint me tomorrow."
"Fun, fun...Sounds fun," Mako tensely said
Chai raised a brow, "You okay?"
"I'm fine," Mako said
"Okay. You know I gotta admit I'm really gonna miss this place. There's so much to do and I've had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone," Chai said
"You mean those guys," Mako mumbled looking off to the side
Chai paused and her smile got smaller. "What did you say?"
"Nothing," Mako said
"No. What did you say?" Chai questioned crossing her arms.
Hearing the bite in her tone Mako got on the defense and crossed his arms too.
"I said those guys. Cause it seems like to me that you've spent all your time with that art guy and those twins," Mako said
"First off, use their names, don't be disrespectful. And second of all, what's wrong with hanging out with them?" Chai said
"Well, I thought our job was to find Airbenders not find guys for you to flirt with!" Mako snapped
"Flirt?! I have not been flirting!" Chai exclaimed
"Then why are you spending all your time with them?!" Mako said
"Why do you care!" Chai said
"I don't!" Mako shouted
"Why are you shouting!" Chai said
"Your shouting too!"
Mako groaned with his hands on his head. This is not how he wanted things to go. He let his jealousy get the best of him and what was supposed to be a confession just turned into him yelling at the girl he liked.
"If you're going to act like this then I'm leaving," Chai said
She stepped around Mako grabbing the handle of her door.
"Chai, wait!" Mako said grabbing her shoulder
Chai yanked her shoulder out of his grasp. "No, I'm not going to let you yell at me when I've done nothing to deserve-!"
