Weekends came, saktong walang duty si Mommy, habang si Daddy naman ay sadyang off ngayon sa work.
I am sitting on our high stool while watching Ate Shanty cooking menudo. I almost drool after smelling its scent. I could feel my stomach grumbling because of hunger that her dish triggered.
"Bakit daw ba pupunta si Ken?" she asked, waiting for the soup to simmer. "Hindi ko alam kung bakit ako ganito, normal naman na pumupunta siya rito sa atin, pero bakit iba ang nase-sense ko?" She smirked.
"Did kuya Ryle mention it to you?" I asked, "Maybe he knows his cousin's motive, right?" clueless about what's she's saying.
Yeah right, it's normal when we're in highschool, but it feels strange now.
"Hay nako, wala namang sinasabi si Ryle. And what makes you think that were still talking?" she asked, irritated
"Yeah, after you turned him down---"
"Hey! Better minimize your voice." She said, circling her eyes while looking at me. I just chuckled,
"Matagal pa ba 'yan? Gutom na ako." I said after feeling my stomach grumbles
"Lapit na, gutom na gutom?" she asked while stirring it gently.
*DING* *DONG*
"Oh, I think it's Ken." I said as I got down in the high stool I am sitting on.
"Shanel, dahan-dahan." Ate Shanty reminded me, I just nodded while running toward the living room. I looked at my self's reflection on the mirror. I fixed my hair and put some baby powder. I also sprayed perfume on the air as I ran to meet it with my body. When I am satisfied, 'tsaka lang ako pumunta sa gate.
I slowly opened our gate with a smile, but it soon faded as soon as I realized that it wasn't Ken.
"V-Vince?" I asked, surprised after seeing him. He looked at me from head to toe with the calmest eyes so instead of being insulted, I just stared at him with furrowed eyebrows. I also looked at him from his setted hair that was obviously with his favourite brand of gel to fix it. He's wearing a chequered polo shirt and left two buttons opened, revealing the necklace I gave him on his birthday last year. He has his pair of faded jeans and pair of Nike flip flops.
What's with his get up?
I looked at his hands with a luxurious brand of watch and the wooden bracelet I gave him also and... he's holding a bouquet of an unfamiliar flower.
He gave me the bouquet which I accepted,
"W-What are you doing here?" I asked, feeling my loud heart beat,
"Tatambay," he answered, "Nandiyan sila tita Marjorie at tito Sanjo?" I nodded as I look inside our house,
"M-Maybe they are at the back yard. Para saan 'tong flowers?" I asked, smelling it, pasimple akong napangiti nang maamoy ang mabangong scent nito. "Is it my birthday?"
"I am planning to give it to your mom, I heard na mahilig daw siya sa bulaklak. Base na rin sa mga halaman sa garden niyo." he said, my smile faded as I heard his answer, "Pahawak muna ha? Ayusin ko lang yung tsinelas ko," he fixed the sole of his slippers. Nagpabalik-balik ang tingin ko sa kanya at sa bulaklak.
So it's not mine?
Napangiwi na lamang ako bago tumitig sa bulaklak na maganda ang pagkaka-arrange.
"Matthew!" napatingin ako sa terrace nang marinig ang boses ni ate Shanty. She waved her hand before running towards our direction. "Mabuti nakapunta ka, musta? Wala ka kanina sa birthday ni Marra." Ate Shanty said while beaming, napatingin ako kay Vince na halatang nagulat pero agad ding ngumiti.
