Chapter 37: Crush

The prosecutor mumbled something in front. He has a powerpoint presentation that showed the sequence of how that accused did the horrendous crime.

“I am now calling Mr. Kairus Aguinaldo at the witness stand, please proceed.”

The witness, Kairus went to the witness stand. Looking at no one, I can see his hands shaking while his gaze was fixated on the floor.

“I solemnly affirm that what I shall state shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” he stated, looking at the bailiff.

The prosecutor stood up as he asks the witness for some questions like his name, his age, his work, etc. nothing interesting at all.

“Defense, would you like to cross examine?”

“Yes, Your Honor.” I am constantly rubbing my palms while watching Atty. Vince Matthew Veronimo in front of us. With his black suit and black shoes, also with a round spectacles that looks perfect with him.

“Who are you?” Vince, the defender asked.

“I am Kairus Aguinaldo, a tenant that saw the crime scene.”

“What are you doing at that place?” he asked with confidence. I could see him glancing back and forth to the witness and to us.

“I went outside to buy a pack of cigarette.”

“For how long do you know the victim?”

“Almost two years, she’s my friend.”

“How about the accused?”

“More than three years.”

The crowds gasped, some of them said ‘oh!’. I looked at attorney, standing tall there with confidence and seriousness. He's already looking intently at the witness.

“Since when do you live in that apartment?” Atty. Veronimo asked.

“Two years,”

“How did you get in that?”

“She suggested me to live there since I was searching for a shelter that time.”

“Why is that?”

“Because my mother scolded me and told me to get out of our house and never come again.”

“Why did she ask you to get out?”

“Objection, Your Honor! The defender’s asking question that isn’t necessary to the case and also invading the witness’ privacy!” the prosecutor objected.

“It is,” Attorney Veronimo said without emotions that can be read in his face.

“Objection overruled. Please proceed,” the judge, Aldrich Buenavista looked at Attorney Veronimo intently.

“B-Because she saw me watching some x-rated videos despite of being a minor.” The crowds laughed at his statement, even Vince smiled a bit after hearing the witness’ statement.

“Okay, so what is your relationship with the victim?”

“I am her friend,”

“Do you have any romantic feelings for Kaila?” Kaila is the victim of rape and was found dead in her room.

“Yes, I do have.” The crowds gasped after hearing his answer.

“Next question, how can you say that Mr. Felix Tan is the suspect?”
