Chapter 22: Happy Birthday
"Why don't you give him a chance?" asked Ate Sharly inside my bedroom. She has been here for about two hours straight. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at her, she just smiled. "Kenzo." Oh there, she mentioned it.
"Why? He's not courting naman. 'Tsaka, he said na he's not pressuring naman. Gusto niya rin muna mag-aral kami nang sabay," I said. Bumuntong-hininga siya at umiling.
"I know you, baby sis." "You like someone else rather than Kenzo." I heaved a sigh.
"I have no interest in anyone else. Crush ko.si Kenzo, but I can't offer my love for him, not right now," sabi ko at pinagpatuloy ang pagtutupi ng damit.
"You like Matthew, don't you?" My eyes widened as she mentioned his name. Medyo kinabahan ako kaya agad akong napaiwas ng tingin.
"No, I don't," I answered. She just looked at me as if she wasn't buying what I said. "H-He's in a relationship with Ate Marra, stop shipping me to him nga!" I said as I felt something inside my head. I just shook that and started putting my clothes inside my closet.
"So what? Lalaki pa rin si Matthew at babae ka, wala namang masama na magka-gusto ka sa kaniya. Maghihiwalay din naman sila ni Marra kay---"
"Knock on the wood, please," I commanded. She just laughed as she shook her head.
"Believe me, Shanel. Walang sparks sila Marra at Matthew," My smile faded. "Hindi pa nga in-attend-an ni Marra ang graduation ni Matthew kahapon," she added.
"Ate Marra said she has too many works. But she's gonna make it with him naman daw," I said.
Vince Matthew is a valedictorian in their batch. I came there kahit hindi naman required na pumunta sa graduation nila kahapon, though we can still watch pa rin. I just want him to feel that his best friend is there at his side.
"See? Promise, wala silang chemistry," Ate Sharly insisted. Shems, I don't know what's going on with my sister. "Kayo ni Ken, wala kayo masyadong chemistry pero pwede na." She grinned, and I can't help but to let out a small smile.
"How about me and Zeus?" I asked. Ngumiwi naman siya at umiling.
"Hindi kayo bagay, 'wag ka roon, ma-attitude." Natawa na lang ako.
After finishing my chores, I went to the shower and took a bath.
I remembered how sad Vince was yesterday after knowing that Marra couldn't go. He almost lost his appetite to make his graduation march. Then I realized that Vince doesn't want Ate Marra gone. For a day that Ate Marra was not there by his side, he became that melancholic, what more if it's lifetime?
My feelings for him are still here, it won't fade. I don't know why, I thought it was just a crush, but it has already crossed the line. As much as I want my feelings for him vanished, it won't be. It's just here.
As for Ken, yes, I'm giving him a chance like what my friends and sister suggested. If ever he'll succeed, then it will be a win for the both of us. If it won't, I think I'm not the right person for him, good for him and he won't suffer too much for loving a person who can't love him back.
