Chapter 45: Identity

I woke up with the noises I heard. I slowly opened my eyes and I was greeted by Audrey’s ear-shattering voice.

“BREY!” My vision’s still blurry but I can see her silhouette coming towards my direction.

“Brey, anong nangyari sa ‘yo?”

“Brey, may masakit ba? Tell us!”

“Oh my ghad, Brey!”

I squeezed my eyes close before I slowly opened it. I saw my friends gather around the hospital cot I am lying on.

“Shanel?” it was Ken with his weary tone.

“W-Where’s Vince?” I asked when I cannot see him around. Iryn cleared her throat so I looked at her. She's just looking at Ken who seems to be surprised with my question. “I-Iryn, Ken…” I bit my lower lip.

“Magpahinga ka na muna, Brey,” Demi whispered.

“Where is he? Hindi pa rin siya lumalabas doon?” I asked. They avoided my gaze and only Zeus remained staring. “Zeus…”

“H-He’s de---“ I immediately stood up running towards the clinic’s exit. Nakasalubong ko pa ang nurse na pinigilan ako, but I just ignored her. I still feel dizzy, but he’s more important for me.

“Oh, shems!” I exclaimed when I almost tripped on the waiting bench.

“Shane?” Agad akong tumingala at nakita si Vince na nakaupo roon. He immediately stood up and helped me to stand up properly. “Shane, how are you feeling?” he asked. He examined me with his look. “Anong nangyari? Is there something hurting? Your body? Legs? H-Head?” I felt my hands shaking as well as my lips that I can’t utter a word. “Shane---hey!” I glared at him while breathing heavily. His bloodshot eyes were just staring at me with a mixture of exhaustion and concern.

Did he cry?

“Y-You made me so w-worried.” I saw how his lips slowly formed a smile. “What are you smiling at? Nang-aasar ka ba talaga?!” He didn’t utter a word, he just remained smiling and staring at me. I bit my lower lip as I hit his arm constantly.

He made me so dead worried! Where did he find the guts to just smile at me?!

I was surprised when he pulled me into a hug---a tight hug.

“I’m sorry for worrying you.” His sadness was hinted by his voice. “I-I’m so sorry…”

“You don’t have to be sorry,” I whispered as I hugged him back. He rested his head on my shoulder. I could feel his exhaustion.

“I love you,” he whispered as he started stroking my hair  “I love you so much, Shanel Breyanna.”

“I-I love you,” I answered. I just can’t get why he’s telling me that all of a sudden. I slightly pushed him to break the hug. He looked at me with his drowsy eyes and a smile on his lips. I stared at his neck when I noticed something there.

He slightly moved back but my eyes were just focused on his neck.

“What’s that?” I pointed at his neck. I just noticed a scratch there. And the fact that it was bleeding a bit, it seems fresh. He stopped moving, he became stoic after hearing my question. Hinawakan niya ang leeg at napangiwi sa hapdi. “Shems, let’s go inside. I’ll clean that.” I pulled him inside, I went to the nurse first and ask for the first aid kit which she handed me right away. Naabutan namin sa cot ko ang mga kaibigan namin, nakahiga pa roon si Zeus habang nagpho-phone. They were talking about something serious but when they noticed us, they became silent.
