Chapter 26: Lotus
Last week has been difficult for me. It has been three days since I committed absenteeism, and now I chose to stay at home and don't attend my class again. I spent my weekend inside my room; I avoid logging in on my social media accounts. I turned on the airplane mode of my phone so that no one could call me. With that, I have the time to think about these thoughts running in my head.
I am wearing a simple maroon pullover, black leggings and slippers. I let my wavy brown hair untied; I just put a turban there.
"Papasok ka na ba, Shanel?" Ate Sharly asked when she saw me descending the stairs. I shook my head.
"I won't," I answered.
"Huh? Saan ka magpupunta?" tanong niya. I saw Ate Shantelle behind her, braiding her hair while looking at me.
"I need to have a check up, sumasakit ang ankle part ko which is not a good sign," I reasoned out.
"Talaga? Sumabay ka na sa akin? Dadaanan ko rin si Mommy sa hospital para ihatid sa kanya ang lunch niya na luto ni Ate Shantelle mo." She showed me a brown paper bag.
"I'm seeing another doctor," I said and walked outside our house to ride our car. Kuya Billie's waiting for me inside. He started the engine of the car and drove away from our home. I turned on my phone and pressed the mobile data button and I opened my Waze app. I typed the place where we are going. As my mobile data opened, messages started flooding. I removed their chat heads and gave my phone to Kuya Billie. "Here po."
He took my phone and put it on the phone holder attached to the aircon. I watched the vehicles and buildings blur past us. I heaved a sigh, the sky's gray today. It was drizzling outside and this is one of those situations where I thanked God and my parents for having a vehicle.
"Ma'am, tumatawang po si Sir Matthew," he spoke in the front seat, stealing my attention from the gray sky. I looked at him in the rear view mirror.
"Pwede po bang kayo na po ang sumagot?" I asked, he nodded and connected my phone in the car's speaker.
"Hello? Shane, where are you? Wala ka raw sa flag ceremony." I sighed after hearing his voice.
"Oy! Si Brey ba 'yan?" I heard Zeus' voice in the background.
"Wait po, Sir Matthew, hindi po ito si Ma'am Shanel," Kuya Billie finally spoke.
"Hello? Who's this?" he asked.
"Driver niya po, si Billie." I pursed my lips while watching the groups of students crossing the streets. There were six students na pinagkakasya lamang ang isa't-isa sa iisang payong. I remembered Ken, Zeus, Audrey, Iryn and Demi. Ganyan kami dati eh. I miss them so much!
"Uh, ikaw po pala. Nasaan po si Shanel?" Vince asked, Kuya Billie looked at me in the rear view mirror. I heaved a sigh before speaking.
"Yes?" I asked with a bored tone.
"Nasaan ka? Wala ka raw sa flag ceremony niyo? Bakit hindi ka na naman pumasok?" he asked.
"Hindi ako papasok."
"What? Bakit? Alam mo bang nag-aalala kami sa 'yo? Sila Zeus hinahanap ka sa akin. Ayaw mo naman magpakita noong pinuntahan kita sa inyo nitong weekend."
