Chapter 20.3: V&M
"Brey! Nae-enjoy ko talaga 'to!" Janee said while laughing wholeheartedly. "Crush ko na si Matthew! Ang bait! Tapos gentleman pa." I rolled my eyes after she said that.
"May Ate Marra na siya, sis!" Audrey said that made me smile awkwardly.
"Psstt!" I saw Gabby gesturing to them through my peripheral vision.
"Oops, sorry!" Audrey apologized while looking at me. I just sipped on my cranberry juice and smiled sweetly.
"Let us enjoy this night? Minsan lang ang prom, let's dance together?" As if on cue, the music turned upbeat. It plays a hip-hop song that makes everyone become at their fiddle-footed state. We held each other's hands as we went through the dance floor. Even if we were wearing our long gowns, they didn't become an encumbrance for us to dance savagely.
I love to dance; I was a child when I discovered my talent in dancing. I remembered myself dancing with Ate Marra, Ate Eycee and Ate Shanty back then, Ate Shanty is a great dancer. Ate Eycee is a good dancer too, but she's not really into dancing. It's not her passion, while Ate Marra is the best dancer for me. I am looking up to her. We compete, we joined the same dance competition before without knowing it, and none of us wins.
I never knew that she would be my competitor in Vince's heart too.
Oh, stop it, Shanel Breyanna! You're not competing with anyone, okay? You play your own game, and the only rival you can deal with is yourself only. This isn't a volleyball match where you will win a trophy, you won't gain the title MVP with that. And also, Vince isn't a trophy.
"Napaka-swerte mo, Shanel." I looked at Gabby when she told me that. I searched for Janee and Drey, but I couldn't find them. Gabby and I were just left here.
"I'm not lucky," I denied because that's the truth. If only they know that I am the epitome of the word 'misfortune'. I am the most unfortunate person you would meet if ever our paths crossed.
"Swerte mo kasi gusto ka ng mga tao," she added leaving me confused. What is she saying? "Swerte mo kasi may nagkakagusto sa 'yo."
"Well, not because I was liked by a person means I'm really lucky. Fortune is all about being given a life. Maraming tao ang nagsa-suffer sa mga sakit, and I could say that those people given a healthy life, those people who can be with their family for a long time, those people who can give back their parents' effort and those who knows God are the most fortunate people in the world. In my case..." I stopped and smiled.
"What do you mean?" she asked with confusion, umiling lang ako bilang tugon. My smile is still here.
"Brey, that's not a good joke," she said with a sincere smile. I just shrugged my shoulders and gestured to her to continue. "We both know that I was once a lesbian." Oh yeah, she's a lesbian before, but not to the point that she cross-dressed and do girlfriends. She's just boyish, and she's planning to live like a boy. Cutting her hair, wearing boyish clothes, living like a real boy. "Ilang beses akong sinermonan ni Mama, sabi niya, hindi niya raw ako ginawa para maging tomboy. Kahit si Kuya Leo, nagtampo rin nang malaman na tomboy ako. Tanging si Tito Aries lang ang naka-intindi sa 'kin." Yeah, her step-dad which is Kuya Leo's Dad "I had experienced gender confusion, but when I met him, everything has changed."
"Him?" I asked. She smiled and refused to answer my question.
"If I were you, bibigyan ko ng chance si Kenzo." My forehead creased.
