December 24, 2020

We all sat in our living room for a special Christmas Vlive, I had sat down on the floor in front of Niki, and beside Sunghoon. We had all started it off, with pretending to sleep, until our manager had turned on the light and we all "woke up".

As the boys began talking I didn't really listen. It seemed that I had been very distracted and in my own world, now that we had neared Christmas time. I think I spoke for Jake, Niki and I, when I said that we were sad about not being able to see our families in the holiday season, unlike the other boys who would be going to visit their families tomorrow.

"What about in Denmark, Bubs?" Sunghoon questioned and I looked away from the table.

"Huh?" I questioned, realizing I didn't listen.

"How do you celebrate Christmas in Denmark?" he questioned with a small laugh.

"Ah," I nodded, "I think this might shock you boys. But we celebrate it on the eve of the 24th. So, in my family, I usually stand in the kitchen with my family all day, where we prepare the Christmas dinner. Then at four in the afternoon there's Disney's Christmas Show on the nationwide TV channel, which we all sit down to watch. After that, it's about five in the afternoon, and then the family begins coming. Then my brother and I put the presents under the tree with our small cousins. At six we all sit down and eat the meal itself, and usually we eat dessert around seven or eigth. Then after we've eaten we go around the tree and sing carols, and then we all sit down and open the gifts one by one."

"You open them the 24th?" Jake questioned and I nodded at him, "what do you then do the 25th?"

"Stay in, sleep long, eat," I listed for him, "ah, and santa also stops by. My grandpa has dressed up as Santa as long as I can remember. Like... he'll say he has to go to the toilet, in the middle of opening presents, and he'll like... climb out the bathroom window after having changed and he'll go around the house and enter through our front door."

"He still does that?" Heeseung questioned and I nodded at him.

"My counsins are like between 4 and 10," I waved it off and he nodded at me.

"Hold on, you eat both a dinner and a dessert?" Sunoo questioned and I nodded, "what is for dinner?"

"Oh... oh boy," I let out a small laugh, "so..." I sighed before beginning to think of the list, "there's duck, roast pork, cooked potatoes, caramelled potatoes, braised red cabbage and gravy," I listed and he looked at me in shock, "and then my mom usually makes a Christmas salad as well, with red cabbage, oranges, walnuts, blueberries and some vegetable oil on top of it."

"Don't you like... get fat?" Jay questioned and I shrugged.

"I mean... yeah... but it all sorts of drop off when you start working or school after new years," I excused to them.

"What is the dessert?" Sunoo turned to me again.

"Ah! This is the fun part!" I exclaimed happily and clapped my hands, "I don't know if they have this anywhere else. But in Denmark, we have a game during the dessert. So the dessert is rice pudding mixed with whipped cream and blanched, chopped almonds. In one dessert portion there'll me one whole almond, and whoever gets the whole almond will get the almond present... that's roughly translated. The almond present in my family is usually a box of filled chocolates."

"We should start doing that too," Heeseung commented and I nodded at him.

"I will gladly make you some of my Christmas food," I nodded at them, "maybe in the time between Christmas and New Year's."

"I can't even wrap my head around your Christmas," Sunghoon shook his head at me, before letting out a small laugh.

"You know what we should?" Jay spoke up and we all looked to him, "this year we're celebrating a normal Korean Christmas, the next few years we should have an Australian, American, Japanese and Danish Christmas as well."
