Everyone had been huddled in the healer's den for a day now, waiting for Wei Ying to awake.
The waiting was agonising, they had so many questions, countless questions and concerns and yet... when the boy finally awoke, he was reluctant to answer any.
Jiang Yanli was the first to notice Wei Ying's consciousness and gasped loudly, "A-Xian!" She cheered, running over to Wei Ying who was blankly staring at the ceiling.
Everyone followed, crowding Wei Ying's hospital bed and making him feel a little claustrophobic but he said nothing, just staring at them numbly.
Yanli's eyes filled with tears as she shook his arm, "Xianxian..." She cried, sobbing pitifully, he gulped, eyes also watering.
As the hold on his tears and sobs threatened to break from his fragile throat, Wei Ying turned away from everyone, stubbornly facing the wall, I should've died.
Jiang Cheng burst into sobs, shaking Wei Ying violently who flinched, "Wei Wuxian!" He cried, shoulder's bouncing with wails, "Talk to us!"
Wei Ying stayed silent, dead eyes just fixed on the oak wall, I should've died I should've died I should've died I-
"Wei Ying..." Lan Zhan muttered softly, his deep voice cutting through Wei Ying's thoughts and making him turn.
Eyes meeting, the room abruptly turned silent, just watching the two interact. Everyone was scared to interrupt, scared to push Wei Ying away again.
Lan Zhan sat beside Wei Ying on the bed, placing a hand on his making Wei Ying tremble a little, Lan Zhan swallowed thickly, "Wei Ying..." He whispered once more, "We've been worried, please... explain yesterday's events..." He pleaded.
Wei Ying shivered, How... how do I begin? How do I say I'm not from this time? That I don't belong? How do I tell them I ruined everything?
And so he turned away again, pulling his hand away and rolling over, back to his family, Silence is best. I should be silent forever, I destroy everything by talking.
Lan Zhan sighed, looking down defeated, "Wei Ying please..."
Wei Ying closed his eyes, not turning over when his sister cried, breaking his heart, it's for the best, not when Jiang Cheng threatened him, I deserve it, and not when Wen Qing checked his slit throat.
Lan Xichen sighed, sitting beside him and patting his back making him flinch again, "Young-Master-Wei," He addressed him gently with a kind smile, "Your family is extremely worried for you, as am I, please, all we want to do is help..."
Wei Ying screwed his eyes shut, his lips quivering, I don't deserve this care... I don't deserve it... He whimpered, then turning his face to hide in the pillow, "L-Leave me alone..." He begged, beginning to shake.
Yanli sniffed, "N-never!" She wailed, "You're my brother! Please Xianxian... please I love you so much please talk to me..." She pleaded, hugging him tight and hiding in his back, wetting it with her tears.
Wei Ying flinched again, "P-Please I d-don't deserve l-love I don't d-deserve this p-please go away!" He cried, his throat aching, "Go away go away go-"
"A-Xian."
Wei Ying's heart stopped, as did his words and his breath and the familiar yet long-unheard male voice rang out, dripping with affection, concern, and tears.
Shaking madly, Wei Ying slowly turned over, gasping loudly when he saw him, "Uncle..." He whispered, eyes swamped with tears, "Uncle..." He whispered again, as if worried he was a hallucination.
