I'm sorry it has been so long I'm not quite sure what happened

"A-Xian?..."

Wei Ying blinked and shook his head. Feeling as if he had merely zoned out he turned toward the noise to see Granny Wen holding a confused A-Yuan while she stroked his hair, twirling Wei Ying's red ribbon between her fingers.

He frowned, "G-Granny?" He whispered, looking dumbly down at his arms for A-Yuan even after seeing him somewhere else. It felt like he had blinked, like he merely started daydreaming but not heavily.

Granny Wen smiled pitifully at him, looping an arm around his waist and pulling him into her chest, sitting him between her legs like she would A-Yuan and sending a surge of fond memories past Wei Ying's eyes. He chuckled softly, shaking his head again and hugging A-Yuan close once more, "You used to do this before..." Wei Ying murmured, feeling the aged hands in his hair pause, "In the... Burial Mounds... A-Yuan and I would sit like this and you'd teach us to make baskets or you'd tell stories for A-Yuan and I'd pile on sometimes..."

Granny Wen smiled, pecking his temple, "I'm glad to do it again..."

Wei Ying refused to acknowledge his now fuzzy vision.

After spending the day with A-Yuan then drinking off some guilt with Uncle Four, Wei Ying made his way to the throne room, a slight sway in each step dazed by liquor but nothing major. He is not a lightweight after all.

He entered and smiled the second he set eyes on his soulmate. Despite last night, Lan Wangji's features no longer tightened his lungs with fear, no longer delirious, frightened beyond recognition, Wei Ying collapsed into his lap and snuggled close, "M'ssed you t'day..." He slurred, his unrestful sleep catching up with him.

Lan Zhan released a shaky breath, a small smile lifting the corners of his lips, "Mn." He nodded in agreement, "Missed you too."

While Jiang Wanyin pretended to barf, Wei Ying placed a chaste kiss on Lan Zhan's lips, letting himself linger for a moment before tucking his head into the curve on Lan Zhan's neck, where it meets his shoulders and sighed contently, "Spent the day with A-Yuan..." He murmured, feeling a hand trail up and down his back, "Remembered wh't a failure I am- drank with Uncle Four..."

Yu Ziyuan did a double-take, "You did what?" She questioned, she herself, not the only one bewildered judging by the stilled hand on Wei Ying's back and the furrowed brows all around the room.

Wei Ying sighed, cheek squished and eyelashes weighed down, "I drank with Uncle Four..." He repeated, shimmying impossibly closer.

Yanli smiled softly and shook her head, bringing a bowl of Lotus Rib Soup to Wei Ying before Jiang Cheng could snatch it and patting his back, "Eat Xianxian." She urged gently, "You are no failure."

Wei Ying huffed, 'Nu uh' -ing in disagreement, "A-Yuan died!" He wailed drunkenly.

Perhaps he's tired enough to become a lightweight after all.

"Left him in the Burial Mounds n' he died awone..." He continued, pouting and sniffling as his eyes welled with tears.

Nie Huaisang frowned, "Died?" He repeated, "He didn't die?"

Wei Ying turned, face scrunched adorably in confusion, "Huh?"

Nie Huaisang nodded, "No I... I had to go somewhere unpopulated to perform the array and well... the Burial Mounds is a triumphant source of resentful energy so... but anyway as I was going in I saw Lan Wangji fly out with a toddler in his arms."

Wei Ying paused, seemingly contemplating what was said before turning to Lan Zhan with glossy eyes and trembling lips. It made sense now, why Lan Zhan was so late to Nightless City, "You..." He whispered, voice cracking, "Oh Lan Zhan!" He wailed, wrapping his arms around his neck and rapidly peppering kisses on his face, "Lan Zhan Lan Zhan!"

Wei Ying hugged his soulmate tightly, smothering wherever he could reach in kisses, "I love you- thank you... thank you..." He hiccuped, hugging him tighter, "Thank you thank you..."

Lan Zhan grinned, in his opinion, undeserving of these kisses but accepting them nonetheless, "Mn. I love you too."

Seeing as they didn't want Wei Ying to have to suffer the burden of vile people yet again, he and Lan Zhan retreated back to Wei Ying's quarters and lay down so Wei Ying could sleep off his drunkenness.

However... Wei Ying had other things in mind.

"Kisssesss!" Wei Ying whined, puckering his lips and trying to free his wrists from his chuckling partner's grip, "Mnn.. no no sleepin' gimme kisses!!!""

Lan Zhan smiled, shaking his head and with a sigh, giving in, "Just a few." He agreed, laughing softly when Wei Ying squealed in delight and pounced on him, joining their lips excitedly.

Wei Ying climbed onto Lan Zhan's lap, releasing the agony of last night and the lingering stress of the day through this affection. He felt it all pour from his shoulders and before he knew it he was moaning, grinding his hips down and chasing the feeling.

Wei Ying intensified the kiss, pushing Lan Zhan down on the bed, he crawled over him, arms around his neck, "Ah..." He moaned, knees either side of Lan Zhan's body.

Lan Zhan smiled softly, one arm around Wei Ying's waist and the other holding the back of his head, keeping him in place as they kissed passionately.

Wei Ying's kisses became more desperate, he was desperately grasping at the free feeling.

Lan Zhan groaned, using all his strength to pull away from the strong temptation that his partner was, "Wei Ying..." He called breathily.

Wei Ying sighed, licking his lips, "Lan Zhan?"

Lan Zhan smiled softly, sitting up he placed Wei Ying on his lap, hugging his waist, "You do not have to pressure yourself." He murmured, "We don't have to rush."

Wei Ying sighed, pouting, "I-it feels good Lan Zhan... doing these things... they make me feel strong and brave and fearless- Lan Zhan it feels so good to feel loved!" He exclaimed, gulping when he realised he had been shouting.

Taking a breath, Wei Ying lowered his head and closed his eyes.

Lan Zhan's heart ached, "Wei Ying... I understand how this can make you feel... empowered." He paused, searching for the right words, "I feel like you are pushing yourself though, like... this is a shield to your anxiety and not... not for love."

Wei Ying's eyes snapped open, and he went to protest but... perhaps Lan Zhan was right.

When he kisses Lan Zhan like this... sometimes it is not because he wants to be in Lan Zhan's arms at that moment, but he wants to escape his nightmares.

That's not a bad thing, but, it is an unhealthy coping mechanism.

And it's hurting the man he loves.

Wei Ying's lips trembled, "I'm sorry..." He whispered.

Lan Zhan sighed softly, squeezing Wei Ying hips, "Don't say sorry," He muttered, "But you need to face these things... you can't hide..."

Wei Ying sniffed, pouting as his cheeks burned the shade of roses and lips, swollen and kiss-bitten, glistened with saliva, "D-Do I have to face them every time?" He whispered, and yet again, Lan Zhan sighed, giving in with a small smile.

"Perhaps not every time." He kissed Wei Ying's collarbone.

Wei Ying smiled, "Well that's good... t-then... kisses! Kisses kisses- mngh!"
