5/5 LOL NIGHT I'M EXHAUSTED

Wei Ying walked back looking like the definition of defeat.

Tears fell like an avalanche down his cheeks leaving them damp and red, his eyes lifeless as they rested their gaze on the ground, despondent.

He wanted Lan Zhan to stay... he wanted more than anything for Lan Zhan to stay...

But he knew that wasn't an option.

Wei Ying sighed.

Making his way back to his cave, darkness loomed over the Burial Mounds as he entered, the faint scent of sandalwood still lingering.

His lips trembled, having Lan Zhan, being Lan Zhan's, it was a dream he could only ever wish for.

Lan Zhan would never love him, and plus, he could never put Lan Zhan through the burden of being with him. He couldn't make Lan Zhan watch him age, watch him practise the dark arts, he couldn't.

-Lan Zhan grit his teeth, "It wouldn't be a burden being with you... it would... it would be the best..." He whispered with red ears and hushed tones.

Wei Ying blushed, stammering, flustered earning a few giggles.

Sighing, Wei Ying sniffed dejectedly before beginning to strip to his inner layer so he could just sleep, throwing the clothes to the dusty ground, Wei Ying rubbed his eyes.

"Master-Wei."

Wei Ying jumped, squealing in his short silky inner robe as he spun around, "Wen Ning?!" He wailed, trying to push the last layer further down his scarred, smooth thighs.

Wen Ning gulped, "E-Er, Master-Wei, I'll watch over you as you sleep, in case you have a nightmare." He smiled slightly, promising protection.

At that, Wei Ying's heart softened a little, and he walked forward to take Wen Ning's cold hands in his, "Thank you... Wen Ning..." He whispered before hugging him.

Wen Ning smiled, his arms wrapping around the slender figure.

Lan Zhan sighed.

When Wei Ying pulled back, he brushed a bit of hair out of the younger's face, "Do you feel anything- any discomfort?" He asked with wet eyes.

Wen Ning shook his head, "I don't feel much, it's hard to smile and I cannot cry, but I feel touches."

Wei Ying sighed, nodding his head, "Well..." He smiled softly, "Goodnight Wen Ning..."

"Goodnight Master-Wei."

***

When Wei Ying woke up the next morning, his entire body ached so much, he instantly gasped in pain the second he attempted to move. It seems, all of yesterday's running around really wasn't a fantastic idea.

You see, when Wei Ying over-exerts himself, tiring out the resentful energy... it punishes him.

It loosens its hold on his plethora of shattered bones and insides, his heart and lungs, just a little bit, enough to make it feel as if he had just fallen into the Burial Mounds.

Wei Ying whimpered, gritting his teeth in agony, in so much pain, he couldn't move without causing more of it.

Lan Zhan clenched his sharp jaw.

Beside him, Wen Ning frowned, noticing Wei Ying's plight as he shook on his stomach, "Master-Wei?" He called, stepping forward.

Wei Ying gasped in pain again, "W-W- ah... Wen Ning g- ngh! Wen Ning get Wen Qing!" He wailed.

Wen Ning gasped, jumping up and running off, "Jiejie!" He cried.

When the younger Wen sibling returned, he and Wen Qing ran over to Wei Ying and sat beside him, Wen Qing furrowed her eyebrows in concern, "Wei Wuxian, what is it?"

Wei Ying was hyperventilating at this point, tears rising to his eyes, I'm not there- I-It's not the same it's not the same it's not the same it's not the same, "T-T-Tired out- ah! The resentful energy..." He groaned, whimpering, "L-Listen..."

They held their breath, listening for whatever Wei Ying wanted them to.

All Wei Ying had to do was shift just a little for them to hear the rattling and clatter of bones grinding together or snapped pieces knocking together, as well as his cries of pain.

Wen Qing's jaw dropped, her stomach twisting, "Oh my god..." She whispered as Wen Ning covered his mouth, she had briefly explained Wei's situation to her brother yesterday, but for him to actually see it... it was horrifying.

Wei Ying sobbed, trying his best not to move as it hurt so bad it HURT SO BAD!!!

Wen Qing gulped, "I'll..." She began, taking a deep breath, "Stay here I'll get my supplies..." She murmured before running off, disturbed and heartbroken.

Wei Ying whimpered a little, whining in pain, he couldn't move, he couldn't move at all, "W-W-Wen N-Ning..." He hiccuped, gasping at the pain it caused, "M-My... the c-c-covers- it's cold..."

Wen Ning felt like crying, "Y-Yes Master-Wei!" He nodded urgently before pulling the covers higher.

Wei Ying sighed thankfully, tears soaking his pitiful pillow.

The warmth, however, didn't last long once Wen Qing came back with sedatives and needles, "Just lay there, it'll be okay..." She said soothingly, leaning down and kissing his temple.

Wei Ying whimpered, closing his eyes, he couldn't sleep he was in too much pain, however, they snapped open when a long needle sunk deep into his excruciating sore flesh, "Ah- AHH! Aah ah!" He cried, twitching, his legs jerking, "S-Stop stop stop stop stop!!!!"

Wen Qing sobbed, roughly wiping her eyes as she sunk another one into Wei Ying's other shoulder only making Wei Ying scream louder, "W-Wen Qing- ngh! Stop!"

Wei Ying was in so much pain, he (barely) thrashed around.

Wen Qing's heart broke, "A-Ning hold him down!" She ordered, placing a final needle in the small of Wei Ying's back.

That made him wail the loudest, jerking under Wen Ning's strong pin-hold.

He cried for ages after that as Wen Qing rubbed creams into his skin, however, after a while, the pain subdued a tiny bit.

Wei Ying sniffed, whimpering as Wen Qing massaged ointment gently into his back, "W-Wen Qing..." He called pitifully, his stuttering breathes and hiccups breaking the Wen's hearts.

Those watching felt broken too.

Wen Qing smiled sadly, leaning down and kissing his hair, "What is it?"

Wei Ying sobbed, "I-I'm wasting your time..." He croaked, "We both know these pains won't ever go away... not without a golden core and I'm just a waste of your ti-"

"Wei Wuxian!"

Wei Ying flinched, gasping, pained, as she talked, "You are not and never will be wasting my time!" She wailed, "Are you feeling even a little less pained?"

Wei Ying shivered, nodding.

Then, Wen Qing smiled, "Then you are not wasting my time..." She whispered, running a hand through his hair, "Now... sleep..."

Perhaps it was the needles, or perhaps it was the loving, gentle touches and hushed whispers, but either way, Wei Ying was lulled to sleep.
