When Wei Ying awoke a day later, it was with fingers gently caressing his cheeks, carefully bringing him back to the land of the living, his eyes fluttered open.

He sighed softly, "Lan Zhan..." He whispered, letting the other boy lift him into a sitting position, a blush sinking into his cheeks when he was placed against Lan Zhan's chest.

Wei Ying huffed, "You really won't give up will you, Lan Zhan?" He asked, mostly numb except for the small pool of affection swirling in his gut.

Lan Zhan shook his head, "No." He muttered, then turning to Jiang Yanli who had made Lotus Rib Soup, a difficult task to have achieved in Gusu but she did it.

Accepting the bowl, he turned to the small, fragile person in his lap, "Are you going to eat, or shall I feed you?"

Wei Ying shuddered, and he would've made an inappropriate joke if it weren't for the fact that he hadn't had the privilege of this soup for years.

Sitting frozen, staring at the love-filled concoction, tears rose to his eyes and he couldn't move, couldn't make himself move as guilt gnawed at him like he used to do to the soup.

Like he had been told, he rejected it by turning his face away because, 'That bastard Yiling Patriarch didn't deserve what he got from his adopted family! He was Yunmeng's greatest shame!'

Yanli gasped softly, the expectant smile falling, Wei Ying had never ever in his life rejected her cooking, "Xianxian?" She whispered, watching as his lips wobbled and he barely held back tears.

Wei Ying choked, "I-I don't deserve Shije's cooking..." He whimpered, "I-I'm Yunmeng's greatest s-shame I-I'm disgusting..."

Yanli's eyes widened in shock, unmoving as Jiang Fengman took a seat beside Wei Ying, taking his small hands and rubbing them in comfort, "A-Xian... why do you believe what is so false?" He asked, staring hardly making Wei Ying shrink and answer.

"I-if you knew..." He whispered, looking and sounding so small it shattered Jiang Fengman's heart and briefly brought him back to a time where he held tiny toddler Wei Ying in his arms and brought him home, "What I've... done... what's been done... to me... you'd run for the hills..." He sobbed, eyes closing and body jumping with every light sob.

Yanli sniffed, stroking Wei Ying's arm and gently making him turn to her, "A-Xian... please believe Shije when I say I won't ever leave you... just please speak to me... Xianxian..."

Wei Ying felt the strong, Lan arms around him tighten as he went to answer, however, a shrill voice cut through his attempt and made him flinch so violently, everyone, even Yanli was on alert.

"Wei Wuxian!" Wen Chao called, voice sour as he walked into the infirmary and even the sight of him made Wei Ying cower back, eyes wide and glossy.

Jiang Cheng's eyes darkened as he looked at his brother because Wei Wuxian, was petrified.

Wen Chao grinned, the same look on his face he harboured before throwing Wei Ying into the Burial Mounds and said boy trembled, "I hear you're aware of my father's plans for his own clan, I'd like to know, who else knows, and how do you know?" He asked, pointing a finger at Wei Ying who- for the first time in his life, was scared of him.

Without demonic cultivation, he couldn't fight against Wen Chao and Wen Zhulio and their pathetic followers, he gulped.

His family obviously noticed, especially Madam Yu' as she was normally on the receiving end of Wei Ying's fear, she frowned, "Wen Chao!" She shouted, making the pathetic weasel jump, "What right do you have to be storming in here and rudely addressing one of my children?!"
