Lan Zhan's heart was pounding in his chest, the deafening thumps filling his ears making his hands shake as Wei Ying slowly made his way to him.

Lan Zhan was frozen, feeling like a small fish being threatened by a large shark, fighting between running away and just staying where he was, before realising he couldn't move.

He was a block of ice, powerless as Wei Ying's eyes ran over his face, did he look scared? Lan Zhan couldn't tell, he was just waiting for the screams, the tears, and the fleeing.

But... then Wei Ying finally smiled, eyes soft and warm, his smile small and sweet as he stepped forward, cupping the terrified Lan's face, "It's okay." He murmured, giggling softly before touching Lan Zhan's lips with his thumbs, "This." Then his eyes, "This," and finally, the space between his eyebrows, "This."

Lan Zhan frowned, letting out a shaky breath, "Wei Ying?" He whispered, hoping that his soulmate was at last not scared of him.

Wei Ying smiled, abruptly throwing his arms around Lan Zhan's neck, "Your smile is warm, your eyes are warm, your eyebrows aren't furrowed, this is what makes you look different from him, I'm okay, Lan Zhan..." He breathed.

Lan Zhan exhaled heavily, a weeping breath before he slung his arms around Wei Ying and hugged him tightly, letting himself cry into Wei Ying's shoulder, "I-I love you." He sobbed, "I-I've missed you s-so much I-I love you!"

Wei Ying smiled sadly, blinking away his own tears, "I missed you too." He whispered, kissing the side of Lan Zhan's head, "I love you, Lan Zhan..."

That's where they stayed for what could have been hours, just holding each other like they'd never get the chance to again, before Wei Ying pulled away from him a little, "Snuggles..." He pouted, dragging Lan Zhan to his room.

Lan Zhan stopped, not allowing himself to be dragged any further, "What if you have a nightmare? A-and then see me?" He asked, lips trembling at the question.

Wei Ying sighed softly, "I trust we'll be okay..." He whispered, eyes shining, a warm smile on his lips as he looped his arms around Lan Zhan's neck.

That seemed to break Lan Zhan's willpower, and after stripping down to their inner layers, Lan Zhan smiled, humming, "Very well then." He gave in, gulping at the sight of his large underrobe and thigh-high socks, before hugging Wei Ying close and slowly trailing his hand to the back of Wei Ying's head where he tugged on his ribbon, setting his hair free and watching, mesmerized and it fell around his face.

Wei Ying trembled, his fingers hovering around Lan Zhan's blue ribbon, hesitating, but then he got the nod, the soft smile, and the loving gaze.

His heart did a few flips as his fingers entangled with the string, pulling slightly and freeing Lan Zhan's hair from its stiff styling, watching as, like his own, it collapsed around his head.

All of a sudden, everything felt very romantic...

Wei Ying gulped, licking his lips as Lan Zhan's eyes swayed toward them, his pupils dilating and shining at the pink plump cushions... and then Wei Ying pulled away, "I-Is it okay if we share a bed?" He asked, fixing the already perfect pillows before moving to do the same with his thigh high socks.

Lan Zhan coughed a little, nodding, "Of course, snuggles." He grinned, crawling into bed with a giggling Wei Ying and pulling him close, hugging him tightly.

Despite the hums of comfort, closing their eyes, and the feeling of relaxation and safety that washed over them, neither could sleep, all they could do was lay there, hearts skipping beats.

It was a few days later, after attacking large groups of Wens and small groups of Wens, now preparing for Nightless City, that Lan Zhan could no longer help himself.

He was walking beside Lan Zhan, blushes on their faces, both waiting for the other to make a move but also not sure if it was the right time, when Wei Ying, deep in his thoughts, tripped on a branch.

Wei Ying yelped, making everyone snap to him as he fell toward the ground, eyes closed waiting for the impact...

But... the hurt didn't come.

Confused, Wei Ying opened his eyes to find himself in Lan Zhan's arms, just inches from each other's faces

Wei Ying blinked in surprise, "You caught me..." He whispered, and Lan Zhan's heart ached.

He frowned, "Of course I did." Lan Zhan muttered, pulling Wei Ying to his feet who looked more touched than he should be, "I told you I won't let you fall, Wei Ying."

Wei Ying whined, stomping his feet, "You can't say things like that!" He 'humph'-ed, grumbling under his breath.

Lan Zhan smiled, his heart squeezing at how cute his soulmate was and he could no longer help himself; he leaned forward and pecked Wei Ying's plush, rosy lips making the other boy yelp and back up, his fingers running to hover over where he had been kissed.

Wei Ying blushed, "Y-You!" He cried, looking away, "S-Shameless..." He whispered, clutching his own wrist tightly.

Lan Zhan smirked, pulling Wei Ying close slowly by his waist, before leaning in again making him whimper in flustered pleasure, gripping the lapels of Lan Zhan's robes.

Their family giggled, jogging away to the carriage letting them have their privacy.

Lan Zhan smiled, laying a very soft bite on Wei Ying's bottom lip making him gasp, allowing Lan Zhan to intensify the kiss.

Wei Ying mewled, this felt amazing, it felt like empowerment, like love...

In Lan Zhan's arms, at this moment, he felt like he could do anything, fight anything, win anything. He was kissing his soulmate!

He was kissing the love of his life and he was going to heal and he was going get married and- Wei Ying moaned, fidgeting at the feelings he snuggled closer, only for Lan Zhan to begin to pull away.

Wei Ying whined, "No, please... I-It's good..." He pleaded, pulling him back in, their lips joined once more, kissing until Jiang Wanyin and Lan Xichen picked them up and pried them away from each other.

Wei Ying began to complain, knees drawn to his chest as Jiang Cheng carried him back with arms around his waist, Lan Zhan in the same scenario.

Once they reached the carriage, they placed their brothers down before all climbing in, Jiang Cheng glaring and keeping his brother close in his arms.

Lan Zhan huffed, missing the scent of sugar and spices already.
