Probably gonna upload again today after this but don't count on it lmao

-Before she had to watch as her future self degraded everyone, Madam Yu huffed slightly and forced herself to speak, "Well done on fighting a beast of that size and strength, you did okay." She shrugged, watching herself be cruel was a sort of awakening.

-Wei Ying flinched, "I-I-I- huh?"

-Madam Yu scoffed, "Have you lost your hearing?"

Wei Ying was frozen silent.

Madam Yu' marched in, her loyal and oddly vicious maids behind her, all glaring at Wei Ying who shrunk under their eyes. In the face of death, he'd never cower, nor in the face of certain torture but he feels one thousand times smaller in Madam Yu's presence.

But then again, after years of abuse for innocent things, or nothing at all, why would Wei Ying do any differently?

Every time she walks into the room, he's reminded of the consequences of acting above his role. He's a servant, he's the son of a servant, he doesn't have the Jiang name, he's an orphan who should have and would have died on the streets.

The Jiangs haven't even adopted him, if they did, he'd be Jiang Wuxian even if he didn't want to be, Madam Yu wouldn't dare do anything then because of the backlash she'd get.

He's in their home as a servant. Nothing more.

Wei Ying didn't dare speak with her in the room, flashbacks of being called to the grand hall late at night when it was just he and Yu Ziyuan awake rolling through his stormy mind.

'Close the doors. And don't scream.' Echoed in his head, followed by the sound of electricity sizzling, his muffled screams, and the 'thwack!' of the Zidian landing on his back.

He'd get punished every other day like that, no matter the crime, whether he had made too much noise, failed an exam, or lost in a fight (because of the wounds) he'd always get whipped.

Nobody knew. Not like they could do much either way. But nobody knew.

Just Wei Ying. He was good at hiding stuff. Really good.

-Jiang Fengman raged, "Yu Ziyuan!!" He screamed, utterly disgusted, "A-Xian is not at fault for false rumours! Nor is he deserving of what you've done! This will be handled when we get home!"

-Yu Ziyuan scoffed, "Jiang Fengman! Why must you-"

-"Stop please stop!" Wei Ying wailed, I can't destroy everything again... I've been given a second chance I can't... I won't...

Over the sound of Yu Ziyuan's yells within Wei Ying's memories, and the pain they felt from him, they heard Wei Ying's soft sobs and it broke their hearts.

-Yanli sniffed, "Xianxian... break empathy, it's okay let's take a break, yeah?" They couldn't see her, but they could tell she was smiling, yet holding back tears for her brother.

-Wei Ying whimpered, "B-But-"

-Zewu-Jun cut him off, also worried, "Young-Master-Wei, we will take as long as you need watching these memories, you can take as many breaks as needed, nobody is going anywhere, we're here for you, so please rest."

And with those sweet words, Wei Ying finally broke empathy and curled into a tight ball. He hadn't realised how harrowing it was going to be to relive the worst moments of his life, and they hadn't even gotten to those yet!

Yanli scrambled across the floor to hug her little brother who flinched even at her touch, but curled into her arms after a moment nonetheless, whimpering and shaking.

Yanli sobbed softly, "Oh Xianxian..." She murmured sadly, pressing her lips to his hair and stroking his back.

Jiang Cheng's lips wobbled, he'd never ever seen his elder brother like this, and yet, in his sister's arms, he looked so tiny.

Wei Ying sobbed into his knees, "S-S-Scared..." He cried, hiccuping as he shook madly.

Jiang Yanli hugged him tighter, "Why are you scared A-Xian?"

Wei Ying whimpered again, "I-I don't want you t-to think less of- of me when you see... see..." Wei Ying began to hyperventilate, horrific memories flashing in his head.

The Burial Mounds.

Lotus Pier burning.

Yanli dying.

Him killing himself.

Wei Ying whimpered.

Lan Zhan closed his eyes, trying to calm the ache in his chest, "I could never think less of you." He promised, comforting Wei Ying and almost making him blush if he weren't in such hysterics.

Jiang Cheng slid across the floor, bringing his brother close who's crying had quietened a little bit, "I could never think less of you either, I lo-"

Jiang Cheng couldn't finish his sentence before Wei Ying was screaming, wailing his heart out and covering his ears.

Lies, I can't listen to more lies!

All Wei Ying could feel at that moment was the pain of seeing Jiang Cheng with such hatred for him, with killing intent.

Wei Ying couldn't breathe, his throat was burning with the force of his cries and his neck was sweating- oh.

He had reopened his wound, Wei Ying curled tighter in a ball before anybody could notice and screamed with all his strength and as he did, he felt the sickening tear of his neck once more.

***

Jiang Cheng froze, shocked as his brother began to scream because of his words. Screams of pain and anguish, "W-Wei Wuxian!" He stuttered, bewildered as to why he just caused his brother more agony.

Hugging his brother tighter, Jiang Cheng's eyes flickered to his sister, then his parents, and then the others with them.

Wen Qing's eyes were red from the strength of holding back tears, and the Twin Jades looked horrified.

Wei Ying's screams suddenly turned to air, a heart-wrenching final whimper escaping him before he went limp, his body falling slack revealing blood-stained robes again.

From there it was chaos, Wei Ying's neck was shedding blood like a waterfall does water, it was horrific, so horrific even Wen Qing, a healer, had trouble looking as she treated him.

Jiang Cheng and Yanli held each other in a tight hug as Wei Ying chased death once more, wailing into each other's shoulders.

Lan Zhan stood by, breath held as Wen Qing tried her very best to keep Wei Ying alive, handing her the things she needed when she asked, "W-Will he be okay?" Lan Zhan asked after a while.

Wen Qing sighed softly, applying a new bandage, "He's out of the danger zone for now, but he needs to be observed. He's suicidal and will very clearly kill himself any chance he gets."

Yanli sobbed at her words, resisting the urge to glare at their mother, "W-What horrible things, which horrible people broke our Xianxian this badly?!" She wailed, turning to hide in Jiang Cheng's chest.

Jiang Cheng shook his head, "I don't know A-Jie, but when I do, I'll kill them." He promised, feeling oddly protective.

He'd never really felt protective over Wei Ying before, aside from those brief moments whenever a dog shows up, but apart from that Wei Ying is usually very strong.

And yet, right now, Jiang Cheng would destroy the world for him.
