Okay lol I'm not calling a break from updating anymore I'm calling it a break from strict schedules

A few days later, when Wei Ying was done suffocating himself with resentful energy he ventured to Qinghe.

It had been almost demolished a few weeks prior and that news only just hit Lotus Pier, that in itself was enough reason to surge on the Wen Clan.

Lan Xichen himself had talked Nie Mingjue into fighting... fighting alongside Wens and demonic cultivation.

Lan Xichen held his tears in until he saw his sworn brother, alone, just the two of them, he burst into tears and collapsed in the man's arms.

Nie Mingjue gasped, guiding Lan Xichen to his throne where they both sat, holding each other close, "Xichen... what happened?" He asked, holding him tightly.

Lan Xichen sobbed, he cried out his fear, his guilt, everything into the built man's shoulder, "He felt so much pain Mingjue..." He whimpered, crying harder as a hand strum down his back, his ribbon wrapping around the other man's fingers.

Nie Mingjue frowned, "Who Xichen?" He inquired, "Is Wangji okay?" Who else would Lan Xichen cry over like this.

Lan Xichen wailed, he burst out everything that had happened recently, from the very beginning from Wei Wuxian's suicide attempts to the recent sexual assault. Everything.

And by the time he was done, his tears had slowed and he pulled away, sniffing, "Watching my cowardice contribute to his agony... to the slaughtering of elderly and children... I knew I had to change but... we failed him again..."

Nie Mingjue blinked away his own tears, "And I did nothing either?" He whispered, "I walked into Nightless City even after having seen all the bodies?"

Lan Xichen whimpered, rubbing his eyes, "I did too... we all did..."

Nie Mingjue sighed, intertwining their fingers, "It won't be the same this time... Wangji destroyed the Burial Mounds' concoction... I will stick by Master-Wei's side too. Wen Qing and Wen Ning's family are welcome here... Wens may have murdered my parents, but it wasn't her."

Lan Xichen smiled gratefully, laying his head down on Nie Mingjue's shoulder again.

Much like his past life, everyone gathered in Qinghe's meeting room, well, aside from Nie Huaisang and himself. His brother told him to go and relax and he'd be updated at the end of every day, Wei Wuxian was not required to be in these meeting, he was just required to rest before the big battle.

And under Nie Huaisang's trusty supervision, Wei Ying lay down on his rooftop beside him, resting his head on Nie Huaisang's arm as they gossiped and drank.

Jiang Cheng had told Nie Huaisang to look after Wei Ying, he had briefed him just a little bit on what had happened, nothing of the Burial Mounds or Wei Ying's past... or power... just his assault.

And so, under Jiang Cheng's orders, Nie Huaisang wouldn't dare leave Wei Wuxian alone, "Wei-Xiong~" He grinned, taking another sip of liquor, "It's been too long since we've seen each other, you didn't even send letters!"

Wei Ying giggled, "Neither did you Nie-Xiong! Don't act innocent!" He whined, pouting and looking away as he kicked his feet in a huff.

Nie Huaisang chuckled, feeding Wei Ying another sip, "Are you nervous, Wei-Xiong?" He asked, "For this war?"

Wei Ying's face fell, a sigh escaping him, "Of course I'm nervous." He whispered, snuggling closer for warmth as his thin body shivered, "I'm scared of losing people... of letting everyone down..."

Nie Huaisang's heart ached, "You won't let anyone down, Wei-Xiong." He reassured, pulling him close, "And nobody will leave you."

Wei Ying sighed, nuzzling his nose on Nie Huaisang's neck, he was thankful that everyone in his life was so willing and happy to be close to him like this, "I hope not... I'm so sick of losing people."

Nie Huaisang remained silent, noticing Wei Wuxian's change in tone, clearly, he had some things to get off of his chest.

All Nie Huaisang could do was gently stroke his back and listen to his burdens and woes.

"No matter what I do somebody always dies..." Wei Ying muttered, "Something always goes wrong and other people are left to clean up my messes."

Nie Huaisang hugged him tighter, "Wei-Xiong, that's not true."

Wei Ying's lips trembled, "Do you think I'm weak, Nie-Xiong?" He asked, being pushed away a second later, hands gripping both of his arms.

"Wei-Xiong!" Nie Huaisang wailed, "How could you think that?! You've been through so much and look at you! Still standing!"

Wei Ying blushed, grumbling under his breath as he returned to the hug, "Maybe you're right..." He murmured, "If anyone is going to win this war it's going to be my powers... everyone needs me and I'm too busy crying and hiding..."

Nie Huaisang's heart ached.

"I never used to be like this..." Wei Ying sighed, "Whenever someone pushed me over I'd just get back up... it's almost like my legs are broken this time..."

Wei Ying blinked away the forming tears, moving from Nie Huaisang's arms he sat up and curled into a ball, looking off into the setting horizon, the hues of pink and orange.

"This should be so much easier than any other time I've fallen down... I have people to pick me up now but... but it's like I'm getting in my own way!" Wei Ying complained, huffing a little, "Being... being assaulted pushed me so far down I don't know if I can get up again.."

Wei Ying sighed, unravelling from his ball a little, "But I have to... I know I have to... I can't stay in hiding forever... I can't not live because I'm afraid."

Wei Ying huffed, shaking his head and standing, "Besides, the only thing that has any power of me is gone!" He cheered, hands on his hips, before he blushed a little, "Lan Zhan killed him..." He gushed, swaying from side to side.

Nie Huaisang rolled his eyes, smiling softly, "Go get em' Wei-Xiong!" He encouraged, lifting his jar of alcohol.

Wei Ying giggled, nodding he jumped down to the floor, "I can do this! I'm the badass Yiling Patriarch!" He nodded, storming off.

Nie Huaisang smiled, taking another swig of his liquor as Wei Ying determinedly walked off, watching, he knew he had made the right decision after all.

Wei Ying burst into the meeting room, much like before with a gust of wind and a cocky smirk, "Let's get this Sunshot Campaign started, shall we?"
