When Wei Ying next awoke, he shivered at the feeling of someone running their fingers through his hair, their nails scratching soothingly at his scalp.

He knew who it was before he eyes opened, the sandalwood smell, quiet humming, serene environment.

A small smile formed on Wei Ying's rosy lips, matching his rosy cheeks as he cracked his eyes open slowly to adjust to the piercing light, "Lan Zhan..." He whispered, "You're humming Wangxian..."

Lan Zhan smiled softly, "Mn." He replied, "I-It might be a bit different since I heard it from you a-and I was just humming but... I hope you still like it." He muttered.

Wei Ying laughed softly, his throat aching, "Of course I will you fuddy-duddy..." He sighed, turning his head in the other direction so Lan Zhan could reach other spots, he closed his eyes again.

Wei Ying melted into the bed as Lan Zhan continued to run his fingers through his hair, "Where is everyone?" He asked after a while, his voice soft with calmness.

Lan Zhan grinned, "They're with Uncle, they're discussing what to do about the Wen clan but without all the details, they're a little stumped." He replied, noticing how Wei Ying flinched and his eyes snapped open.

"Oh..." Wei Ying muttered, "The Wen clan... Cloud Recess.. Lan Zhan..." He whimpered as he began to cry, "Lan Zhan I can't live through this again!"

Lan Zhan panicked, knowing how delicate Wei Ying's throat was, he lay down beside him and brought him close, "Wei Ying, whatever tragedies happened will not happen again, because of you and your bravery and strength, this time, nothing bad will happen." He muttered, still humming.

Wei Ying continued to cry, but it was soft, hiding in Lan Zhan's arms as if in them, nothing bad could ever occur.

When he felt Lan Zhan's arms hug him tighter, his large palms curled around his sides, Wei Ying shivered and closed his eyes once more, snuggled into his neck, "Lan Zhan..." He whispered.

"I'm here."

A few hours later, Lan Zhan's ears, and Wei Ying's cheeks burned red when their family walked in on them laying down in each other's arms. Jiang Cheng glared, "Lan Wangji! You're shameless enough to sleep with my brother before courting him officially- or even marrying him?!"

Wei Ying's face flushed baby pink, "Jiang Cheng!" He squealed, whining and hiding in Lan Zhan's neck.

Lan Zhan huffed, giving Wei Ying a final squeeze before leaving the bed and smoothing the wrinkles out of his robes, "I was comforting him. Nothing more." He muttered, glaring at his brother since he was laughing behind his large sleeves.

Lan Xichen grinned, "I'm sure Wangji will never disrespect your brother." He reassured, smiling at his brother.

Grandmaster Qiren cleared his throat making Wei Ying stiffen, "We can discuss this later." He glared at his nephew, under different circumstances, he'd blow up at the prospect of his nephew and Wei Wuxian getting married but... after what he'd seen a few days ago and... and what Wei Ying had apparently attempted again, he figured it was a bad idea.

"Right now, the matter of the Yin Iron and Wen Ruohan is our top priority." He declared, and nobody missed how Wei Ying's breathing hitched at the reminder.

Lan Qiren sighed, "Wei Wuxian, do you mind if I join you in Empathy?" He asked, and Wei Ying practically jumped out of his skin.

"A-Ah, G-Grandmaster Qiren, I-I- what you'll see isn't pretty." He warned, eyes rimmed with red, wide and glossy.
