Wen Qing kneeled before him as he cried, her own rosy lips wobbling as she took one of his hands, trickling medicative powder onto the cut made from Jiang Cheng's Sandu.

-Jiang Cheng was shaking as he held his brother tighter, "...I can't believe I've failed you so badly... I... I can't..."

Wei Ying pushed himself further into Jiang Cheng's warm hold, tilting his head up so his nose would caress Jiang Cheng's jawline, a way of saying 'it's okay' without letting everyone else know...

He was crying.

Neither of them spoke as she held his hands so nicely, treating his wound and allowing him to cry peacefully. Not alone, but on his own.

Wei Ying grit his teeth, crying into his forearm, Xianxian... The kind voice of his Shije echoed out, a memory following, Yanli was drawing, watching with a smile as Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying swam around, splashing about and throwing large waves of water at each other.

Wei Ying smiled so wide, leaping on Jiang Cheng, "Chengcheng!!" He cheered, laughing like an angel, his black, silk inner robes tied together so they'd reach hid mid-thighs, much like Jiang Cheng's lilac one.

Perhaps he looked like an angel too. Lan Zhan gulped thickly.

The clear rivers of Yunmeng shone like a reflective mirror, the warm stones beneath the salt wet and visible, some drowned in the shadows of Lotus flowers and boats.

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes, a small smile on his lips as he punched Wei Ying's toned, soft stomach, hitting his abs, "Get off!" He yelled.

Wei Ying winced, giggling, "Jiang Cheng! So cruel!" He wailed, huffing, "One would think you don't love me!"

Jiang Cheng laughed, as did Yanli, as did Wei Ying.

Their laughs followed Wei Ying back into reality, though, they seemed mocking now.

He could never have that again.

Wei Ying sniffed, whimpering as he finally lifted his head, "Wen Qing..." He whispered, his nose red along with his eyes and cheeks, he pulled his hand away, "It's okay Wen Qing."

The smile he gave hurt so much, Wen Qing gasped and pulled him into her chest again,
"Do not pretend with me." She ordered gently, rubbing his back, her hand moving over his prominent, beyond snapped spine.

Wei Ying whimpered, sobbing into her chest, "W-Wen Qing I-I can't I-I can't do this I c-can't let myself b-break like this b-because if I do I can't put myself back t-t-together I can't Wen Qing I can't I CAN'T!!" He wailed, screaming into her collarbone, hugging her back tighter.

Wen Qing sobbed, "Then I will put you back together again and again and again..." She whispered, hugging him just right, likely due to her years of being an elder sister and a doctor, "I will stay by your side and I will pick you up every time you fall down... I promise you, Wei Wuxian."

Wei Ying took in a loud, unwilling, sharp breath before crying his heart out into her robes, screaming his throat hoarse, hiding in her arms he cried and cried and cried.

And Wen Qing never faltered once.

The doctor watching took a breath.

His family and friends looked down in shame.
