After taking Jiang Yanli back to her quarters to rest, Wen Qing made her way over to Wei Ying with slow steps, as if approaching a fearful animal... even if Wei Ying was still asleep.

As she did, Wen Ning paced back and forth in rage, These people... truly useless!

Wen Ning shook his head, "They dragged him back there even when his feet wouldn't move and his knees buckled! They said- they promised to protect him, they said nothing would happen and look! Ying-ge was..." Wen Ning trailed off, covering his face, he tried not to cry.

Wen Qing's lips wobbled as she finally sat beside Wei Ying, looking at his beautiful features, such a perfect person... so lovely... so kind... so delicate...

Why does the world want to hurt you, my sweetheart?

Taking in a shaky breath, Wen Qing gulped her tears down, "Perhaps Lan Wangji didn't deserve the number of slaps... but I'm angry too A-Ning..." She murmured, pulling the covers back and preparing herself.

Wen Qing considered telling her youngest brother to turn around, to hide from whatever heart-shattering sight was laying beneath Wei Ying's clothing but... something told her from Wen Ning's stare that unlike the other's, he wasn't running away.

Closing her eyes, Wen Qing took a deep breath before pulling loose Wei Ying's sash and parting his robes, revealing milky soft skin and...

Wen Ning whimpered, staring, horrified at the gallery of marks covering Wei Ying's body, hand marks, bite marks, scratches, bruises.

Wen Qing's tears fell, sobs escaping her mouth as she retrieved a cloth; wiping everything clean before treating his wounds, applying a bandage to a particularly bad one on his thigh and re-applying the one of his neck which had been damaged as well as the stitches during his struggle.

The thing that did this to him... is truly a beast with no morality.

Another day had passed of everyone resting in Lotus Pier, Wen Qing had allowed nobody but Yanli and Wen Ning to get anywhere near Wei Ying and had kept him under plenty of blankets.

She had put light blankets on him to reduce the weight, she didn't know what would scare Wei Ying when he awoke and she didn't at all want him to feel pinned down.

From now on, she is in charge of Wei Ying's protection.

Sighing, Wen Qing closed her eyes, leaning her head back against the wall as she cradled Yanli close to her chest, the two just resting after having been awake all morning stressing.

Humming, Wen Qing enjoyed finally being able to rest, up until Wen Ning called her name, "Jiejie! Ying-ge is moving!"

The two women's eyes snapped open, to their feet in seconds they rushed to Wei Ying's beside, sitting on either side of him as he cracked his glossy eyes open.

Yanli held her breath as they fluttered a bit, tired from having just woken up, "A-Xian?" She whispered, clenching the sheets in her fists.

Wei Ying's head felt both full, and empty at the same time, everything felt fuzzy and tingly... just... odd...

Nothing registered, he couldn't grip anything, everything was just... not right.

Whining softly, Wei Ying weakly lifted his hands to his head, pulling at his hair trying to correct the wrong feeling in his head.

Wen Qing gasped, pulling his hands away, "A'Ying!" She cried in alarm, "A'Ying, what is wrong?"

Wei Ying shook his head, releasing another whine, he felt inside out.

"Wen Qing..." He whimpered, voice hoarse and throat dry.

Wen Qing's eyes filled with tears before she leaned down, enveloping him in a hug, she cried into his hair.

How could she possibly heal this?

She could apply salve to his wounds, she could dress him in bandages, she could light soothing incense, but she could never heal the immortal, severe trauma this would bring.

Wei Ying sniffed, snuggling closer to Wen Qing. He felt safe around her, she was the only one that had always succeeded to protect him, the only one who had kept her promises.

Kicking his legs weakly beneath the covers, clutching his robes around himself, Wei Ying whined, trying to crawl out of his own skin.

Yanli's lips trembled as she ran her fingers through Wei Ying's hair, "Xianxian, I'm here..." She whispered, smiling best she could.

Wei Ying didn't react to her, as if he was deaf to everything she did, he arched his back and moved out of Wen Qing's embrace, whining again.

Wen Qing frowned, wiping her tears, "A'Ying?"

Wen Ning stood close, "Ying-ge?"

Wei Ying kicked his legs a few times, whimpering he clumsily pushed his palms into his eyes, his movements toddler-like, "D-Doesn't feel right!" He wailed, beginning to dig his nails deep into the skin below his eyebrows and drag down.

Yanli's heart shattered as she gasped in shock, yanking Wei Ying's hands away from himself before he could cause serious harm, "A-Xian!" She cried, "A-Xian it's okay... talk to Shije, what doesn't feel right?"

Wei Ying groaned, shaking his head he went limp and turned away again, everything was confusing him, he couldn't understand how he felt or what was going on everything was just...

Wei Ying shook his head again, burrowing into the covers and closing his eyes, putting his hands over his ears to block the world out and try to regain sanity, he began to hum.

The tune could have been Wangxian, but it was so scratchy and... unsettling that the two women didn't have a clue.

Yanli gulped, turning to her partner, "What is wrong with him?" She whispered, eyes full of tears.

Wen Qing shook her head, "I don't know..." She sniffed, "Perhaps... he just needs more rest..."

Wei Ying clamped the hands over his ears down harder, tempted to tear them off, dirty dirty dirty dirty! He screamed inside, that's what he felt, he felt icky.

Wei Ying whimpered, removing the hands he kicked so hard the covers came off, "D-Dirt..." He sniffed, incoherent, he felt distanced from his body as if he was looking in from the outside.

Yanli's lips trembled, "You feel dirty?" She asked, but Wei Ying didn't react to her.

Wen Qing frowned, repeating the question and receiving a delayed nod, she sniffed, "Okay er... A-Ning, please carry him t-to the bath I-I'll get soaps, A-LI, please prepare it..." She murmured, stroking Wei Ying's hair when the two walked off, smiling when he untensed just a little and nudged her hand.

It seems Wei Ying would only react to her, for whatever reason, she didn't know.

Perhaps, it was because his brain recognises her presence and voice, scent, and touch, as something that has never brought trauma, or at least, it has brought the least amount of trauma.

It is the safest thing he knows.

It gets better.

Ik this is very short but I am going to sleep lol BYE I was having such trouble with this <3
