Since learning that it had been Nie Huaisang behind the mystery of Wei Ying's time-travel, the two had been fucking inseparable. They had done everything but sleep together, they ate together they swam together they made fans and joked around they were together all. The. time.
Lan Zhan reflected on this as he sat on the warm oak planks in Lotus Pier, looking out into the vast river of diamond-like waters and strumming gentle tunes on his Guqin.
It was making him uncomfortable, the amount of time they spent together. Especially seeing as the two previously had strong feelings for each other and it seems Nie Huaisang's love is still possibly alive and thriving, but... what was he to do?
Tell Wei Ying to stop spending time with his best friend?
No. He would never do that. Wei Ying is not responsible for his insecurities.
Plus, he could never doubt Wei Ying's loyalty.
But it was fucking annoying.
Nie Huaisang laughed loudly, wrapping his arms around Wei Ying's small waist as they threw waves at each other, submerged in the salty Lotus Lakes.
Wei Ying squealed, "Nie-Xiong!" He laughed loudly, kicking his legs to break free, he couldn't lose to Nie Huaisang! He thought with a whine, throwing water over his head but to no avail, Nie Huaisang and his quick tricks (and unfair tickling) triumphed over him.
Merrily, Nie Huaisang laughed and released him, his legs kicking to stay afloat, "Ah, Wei-Xiong as fun as this is," He chuckled, his shins kissed by drowned seaweed and hugged by Lotus stems, "Your fiance looks just about ready to murder me."
Wei Ying cocked his head, turning to the man in question and giggling to find Nie Huaisang's claim to be true, oh Lan Zhan... He shook his head fondly, making his way over to the docks as Nie Huaisang managed a quick exit.
Like mermen would in fairy tales, he pulled himself up and let his tail-like legs dangle, water fleeing his slender figure leaving his satin lavender robe to cling to him, "Lan Zhan!" He cheered, "Do you think I haven't noticed you glaring at Nie Huaisang?" Glaring playfully, Wei Ying pecked the tip of Lan Zhan's nose with his finger.
Lan Wangji's ears ripened like strawberries, his raven-black hair doing nothing to veil the vibrant red shade they burned into, "I-I-"
Wei Ying laughed, joyous little chuckles rumbling from his chest, his pearly smile whiter than daisy petals, "You're so cute!" He cried, plopping down on the deck beside him, "It's okay my love, you know I'm yours."
Lan Zhan's heart settled in his chest as Wei Ying's arms wrapped around one of his, his head resting on his padded shoulder and his eyes slipping shut.
The couple sat on the deck for the next few hours, bathing in the warm sunlight and listening to the quiet sounds of young waves clashing with the shore as well as Lan Wangji's Guqin playing Wangxian and rounds of cleansing.
The purifying energy seeped into Wei Ying's skin like a good salve, breaking down bit by bit the resentful energy in his blood. It was a slow process and it would take several months for the resentment to break down and dissipate completely, but they had time.
They had all the time in the world.
At some point, Wei Ying must have drifted off in his fiance's arms because when he next opened his eyes he was tucked under soft blankets, he had been bathed and dressed into new clothes.
Wei Ying smiled softly, his tummy coiling with the strong urge to kick his legs and squeal just to release some of the overwhelming emotion.
Somehow, he managed to push that desire down for now and instead sat up, pushing himself up against the headboard and turning to his soulmate across the room. He smiled softly, watching Lan Zhan elegantly write letters, his quill evenly dipped in ink and dancing across the paper.
He was in love.
Wei Ying was so in love.
Everything Lan Zhan did was done to utter perfection, he put all he had into everything he does and it's amazing.
Wei Ying grinned, pulling the covers off and leaving the bed to sit beside his Lan Zhan once again, "That was a good nap." Wei Ying chuckled, looking down at what Lan Zhan was doing.
He was writing a letter to his brother in Gusu, apparently responding to Zewu-Jun's previous note, the two brothers were speculating about who framed Wei Ying in his past.
Oh. Wei Ying shivered.
It wasn't that he had forgotten, it was just that he had hoped that whoever had gone out of their way to frame him wouldn't do it again, with everything that has changed, perhaps that did too?
But Wei Ying knew that hope was too good to be true.
"...Who do you think it is?" He asked, his voice quiet.
Lan Zhan sighed, pulling Wei Ying to sit in between his legs so he could hug him as he wrote, "I have a few theories." He began, "But brother and I, as well as Uncle and Mingjue-ge suspect Jin Guangyao was behind it all."
Wei Ying flinched, turning back in surprise, "Jin Guangyao?" He repeated, the name rolling off his tongue but it didn't taste right, "Him? He was always so nice to me..."
Jaw clenched, Lan Zhan nodded, "He made you trust him. During Empathy, we noticed his expressions were... puzzling. They at times did not match with the situation. When he thought nobody was looking his true self broke through a little. I suppose he did not anticipate being watched in such a way one day."
Wei Ying blinked, clearly, judging by his lengthy speech, this was a theory his fiance was confident in.
Wei Ying sighed, "I...I guess he would have the power and wit to pull off such things, but- ayah Lan Zhan, he was Xichen-ge's sworn brother!" He cried, throwing his head back against Lan Zhan's shoulder, exhausted already.
Lan Zhan hummed, "He is clever." He noted, finishing off the letter with a flick of his brush and leaving it to dry, "But you do not have to worry about these things, Wei Ying, we are here."
Wei Ying huffed, pursing his lips, I refuse to cry again.
Pouting like a denied child, Wei Ying turned in his fiance's lap, hugging his neck and tucking his face into his neck, "Stopsayingsweetthings!" He whined, feeling the vibrations of Lan Zhan's almost mute laugh before arms wrapped securely around his body, hugging him tight as if they could merge together.
Perhaps they could.
Wei Ying smirked, mischievous thoughts brewing as he puckered his lips, latching them onto Lan Zhan's toned neck and grinning victoriously when his body stiffened and a harsh intake of air resonated beside his ear, not laughing anymore, huh?
Lan Zhan shook his head, arms squeezing Wei Ying a little tighter, "Do not start what you cannot finish, Wei Ying." He warmed, eyes meeting his lover's when he pulled back, a challenge in his eyes.
Wei Ying cocked his head, "Who said I couldn- ah ah! Lan Zhan! At least take me to the bed- ah! Don't break this perfectly good table!"
***
Wei Ying was wrung out after those adult activities, penetration was forbidden before marriage (thanks to Jiang Cheng) Wei Ying thought a little grumpily, but that didn't stop his fiance from marking him all over.
Practically mummified in Lan Zhan's arms, Wei Ying smiled contently and floated into a deep sleep.
---
"Shh.. shh shh..." It soothed, arms around his waist, naked chest pressed against his naked back, "You were so good..." The shadow whispered, almost lovingly, as it kissed the back of his neck.
Wei Ying's body was in shock, his mind struck with paralysis. All he could do was gasp softly for the air he was continuously denied and shake petals in the wind.
