There are times where I'm like ahaha this is shit- but no I MEAN IT this time THIS IS UTTER GARBAGE

-Lan Wangji wanted to scream, "I left you?" He whispered, "I should've... I could have gone with you..."

-Wei Ying sighed sadly, "It's okay, Lan Zhan," He spoke as he squeezed the other boy's hand, "You have your own life and responsibilities, I could handle the Wen on my own and besides, you don't owe me anything."

-"I believe I owe you a lot but... I won't ever abandon you again... I promise." He smiled, pressing his forehead ribbon to Wei Ying's hand making him gasp and causing others to wonder what had happened.

Wei Ying's cheeks flushed, but he shifted closer to the Lan anyway.

They watched as Wei Ying led the Wen into the Burial Mounds, shaking in terror, he tried to keep calm but look undoubtedly terrified.

An elderly man called Uncle four, gently tapped his shoulder, "Wei-Gongzi, c-can people r-really live here?" He stuttered.

Wei Ying gulped, turning and taking his hands, his eyes watering, shiny with unshed tears, "I will do everything in my power to ensure you can, besides, I once lived here for three months." He shrugged, turning back around and guiding them again.

Wen Qing snapped to him as she supported her exhausted grandma, putting the pieces together.

He had survived in this place for three months, without a golden core.

She gulped.

Leading them deep into the vast mountain of corpses and decay, Wei Ying eventually found the abandoned fortress of Xue Chonghai, "This will be our home now, we should start building as soon as possible, for now, get some rest." He smiled, even as his thin, barely clothed body shook with tremors from fear and cold, "I will keep you safe." He promised.

Wen Qing helped her family settle in for the night before going back to find Wei Ying, to thank him for everything, however, found him in tears as he looked around the very place that broke him, "I never thought I'd have to come back here..." He whimpered, sniffing.

Her heart shattered, tears covering her eyes as the boy shook and trembled, clearly, whatever he'd faced in this place was beyond horrifying.

"Wei Wuxian." She called, noticing how he snapped to her in alarm, before wiping his tears and taking a breath.

"Ah, W-Wen Qing." He sniffed, gulping, "I'm okay... just..." He sighed, tutting and shaking his head before standing as if nothing had happened, making her wonder how many times he'd had to pretend to perfect it like he had, "I'll go set wards, if I don't we'll have people storming in any second..." He smiled, waving on the way out.

Wen Qing sighed, closing her eyes.

He helped her, so she will help him, I must look out for him...

Wei Ying had spent hours and hours putting up wards and protections, he hadn't slept in over twenty-four hours, nor had he eaten. After facing extreme trauma several times and then throwing up, surviving on nothing but liquor, he was beyond exhausted.

Stumbling as he walked, Wei Ying's eyes fluttered, black spots covering his vision which he stubbornly blinked away.

When his limbs grew heavy and his eyes started to burn, the black invading his sight tried to seduce him into resting but he couldn't yet, not until he'd ensured these innocents safety.
