Lol actually I felt bad so here

When Empathy broke, the small healer's den was full of wails and tears, all snapping toward Jiang Cheng who dry-heaved, almost puking onto the wooden floors before hysterically running out, clutching his hair.

Wei Ying gasped, sobbing he stood on madly shaking legs, chasing after his brother, "A-Cheng!" He yelled, strained, as he chased after him ignoring the yells for him of those he was leaving behind.

Jiang Cheng continued to run, being chased through Cloud Recess and deep into its forest land, "Jiang Cheng!" Wei Ying cried, getting a sense of deja vu'

They ran for ages before Jiang Cheng stopped, crashing into a thick tree he punched the bark creating a dent, "AHHHH!" He screamed, wailing.

Wei Ying gasped for air when he could finally stop running, still weak from his blood loss and exhausted from the energy it took to perform empathy for so long with so many people, "Jiang Cheng!" He cried, clutching his brother's shoulder only to be roughly shoved to the ground a second later.

Wei Ying whimpered.

Jiang Cheng, hearing the sound, spun around in shock, looking down to his hands as if they were set aflame, frozen in place.

Wei Ying sobbed, shaking as he crawled onto his knees, bowing with his forehead touching the wet, forest floor, damp with the nighttime's misty cold.

He was shivering in the darkness, the moon illuminating their features.

"I-I-I'm s-s-s-sor-sorry I-I didn't- didn't m-mean to get S-Shije killed!" He cried hysterically, trembles ricocheting through his thin body.

Jiang Cheng abruptly turned away and threw up, retching before wiping his mouth, turning back to his brother he yanked him to his feet by the lapels of his robes, crying, "No you fool! You didn't kill her, I'm devastated because I KILLED YOU!" He screamed, falling to the floor.

Wei Ying hiccuped, whimpering as he watched his brother slump against the tree, crying his eyes out and not bothering to wipe the tears, "Jiang Cheng..." He whispered, crawling to him feebly, curling up in his lap he hugged his brother tight, "Jiang Cheng... it's... it's ok-"

"Don't." Jiang Cheng spat, wrapping his arms around Wei Ying, he pushed the delicate face into his neck and pulled the legs to rest on his, "Don't say it's okay... nothing about what happened to you is okay- nothing about what I did was okay..." He sobbed.

Wei Ying sniffed, whimpering as he shivered, pushing himself closer for warmth he couldn't get in such cold temperatures.

Jiang Cheng's chest lept up and down with his harsh breaths as he stripped off a few layers of his robes, wrapping them around his too-thin brother.

He himself would be fine for hours in Gusu's freezing nightly temperature, he has a thrumming golden core and defined muscles to form body heat.

Wei Ying, however, while he has a stronger golden core to sustain him, is thinner by a lot and weaker from his blood loss and exhaustion. Plus, he was wearing only two thin layers, Jiang Cheng gulped, hugging him tighter.

Besides, Jiang Cheng was never... ever prioritizing himself over his Shixiong ever again.

Jiang Cheng wasn't sure how many hours had passed before light started peeking over the mountains and through the trees, spreading like honey.

After some time, Wei Wuxian had fallen asleep leaving Jiang Cheng to weep as silently as he could, transferring energy to keep Wei Ying warm.

Perhaps he was transferring too much, so much, there were purple flame-like sparks all over them both, but it didn't matter. Wei Ying was warm and comfortable, Jiang Cheng wasn't stopping, not even if he felt tired.

Jiang Cheng sniffed, tear tracks on his cheeks, "Shixiong..." He whispered, wiping both of their tears, "I'm so sorry Shixiong... I'm sorry I'm so sorry... I love you I do I love you so much I-I... I know I don't show it well... or... I never show it... but I do love you Shixiong I swear it..." He whimpered to his asleep brother.

I can't even say this to him when he's awake... He scoffed at himself, throwing his head back against the bark, he brought his brother closer and for once, didn't fight the smile trying to break through when Wei Ying practically purred, snuggling closer.

Hah... transferring energy to you Shixiong, is like scratching behind a cat's ears. He snickered weakly, shaking his head, I...I'll transfer energy to you whenever you wan-

"We found them!" A familiar voice cheered, a voice that made Jiang Cheng's stomach plummet.

No... Jiang Cheng thought, turning around with wide, fretful eyes to meet a small swarm of Wens.

Jiang Cheng's eyes darkened, I will not allow you near him.

Wen Chao grinned, "What are you doing up at this hour, Jiang-Gongzi?" He asked, crossing his arms as he stood beside Wen Zhuliu and his guards circled the two Yunmeng boys.

Jiang Cheng didn't answer, just clenched his jaw and pulled the cloth around his brother higher, up to Wei Ying's neck as if to hide him.

Wen Chao sighed, "Don't you know it's rude not to dignify someone with a response?" He questioned, shaking his head, "Anyway, I'm only here to talk with Wei Wuxian~ as you know, I tried to a few days ago and got nowhere, could you... wake him for me?"

Jiang Cheng glared, fingers curling around his brother's limp form, transferring more energy, I can't defend you... I'm... I'm too useless but... hopefully, if needed, this helps you save yourself...

"No." Jiang Cheng spat.

Wen Chao chuckled, eyes darkening, "Hand him over... Jiang Wanyin." He smiled threateningly with Wen Zhuliu poised beside him.

Jiang Cheng glared, jaw trembling as he held his unconscious brother closer, "Fuck off!" He growled, turning away, refusing to let Wen Chao or his minions touch him.

Wen Chao sighed at that, "Nobody in Yunmeng has any respect!" He yelled, turning to Wen Zhuliu, "Capture him."

Jiang Cheng's eyes widened as Wen Zhuliu surged forward, hands outstretched for Wei Ying's slender body, "Get away from him!" Jiang Cheng screamed, scrambling away as he turned his back to Wen Zhuliu, hiding his brother with his body.

Just as Wen Zhuliu's fingers caressed the silky black locks on Wei Ying's head, a sea of light blue landed in front of the two boys, a teal flute lifted warningly, "Is there a problem here?" Lan Xichen asked, glaring at Wen Zhuliu.

Wen Chao froze before he began to scowl, looking around to find three Lans, all the Jiangs, and Wen Qing running toward them, shit...

Wen Chao scowled, "No problem sect-leader-Lan..." he murmured through gritted teeth, giving Wei Ying one last glare before leaving

Yanli rushed toward her brothers, collapsing at their side, "A-Cheng... you're giving him too much energy... stop giving so much..." She pleaded, taking one of Jiang Cheng's hands with a struggle as he refused to part from Wei Wuxian, stroking Wei Ying's hair with her other hand.

Jiang Cheng whimpered, "How can I ever give him too much A-Jie..." He whispered before he began to sob again, "A-Jie I murdered him... he... he couldn't fight back and I murdered him- HE'S MY BROTHER AND I MURDERED HIM!!!"

Wen Qing sighed with red eyes, kneeling before them to take Wei Ying's pulse, checking his forehead for a fever, before inspecting the bandage around his neck, "Empathy must have exhausted him..." She muttered, shaking her head, she turned to Jiang Cheng, "Pick him up, he needs to sleep in a bed."

As she said that, they realised he had barely slept on a real bed in years and years.

Lan Zhan sniffed, glaring at Jiang Wanyin who didn't blame him for it as he passed his brother to the Lan, "I-I... you're better at protecting him than I... plus... I transferred too much energy."

Lan Zhan nodded, cradling Wei Ying close to him as if he were the most precious... fragile things on the planet, I will protect you, my love...
