Flipped Script (Eli/Hawk)

Prompt: y/n is having a hard time as her boyfriend transitions from Eli to Hawk but she realizes that it isn't worth losing the guy she loves, request for @DragonLover0908

Y/n was struggling to understand why her sweet boyfriend felt like he had to change. She loved him and while that hadn't changed she just didn't understand why he was doing such drastic things in order to be accepted by his karate friends. Eli was sweet and caring and an amazing boyfriend, but now he was somehow more possessive and colder to her in public. Behind closed doors he was the same as he'd always been, but it was just such a rapid switch that y/n couldn't wrap her head around it.

"Hey babe," Eli came up and wrapped his arms around her from behind, kissing the side of her head.

"Hi uhhh," she hesitated, not knowing what to call him.

"Call me Hawk in public," he whispered into her ear.

"Hawk." She finished, pretending to realize it was her boyfriend. She turned to wrap her arms around his neck.

"What are you doing later?"

"Not much, I was hoping that my hot boyfriend might take me out so I didn't want to make plans."

"Well you're in luck because that's exactly what I plan on doing," He leaned down to kiss her, pushing her into the locker door. She let out a muffled groan as her back hit the lock. She adjusted herself and eagerly kissed him back until they heard someone clear their throat next to them.

"Having fun?" Demetri was standing next to his locker, smirking at the couple.

"Yes, actually, we were having fun," Y/n stared at Hawk when he said this, shocked that he could be so blunt, "Well I was having fun, were you babe?"

Y/n turned bright red but squeaked out a small "yes" before hiding herself in her boyfriend's side.

"You uh might want to be careful there, Eli, you don't want to make her implode." Demetri gestured at y/n who was still trying to make herself invisible because of the embarrassment of getting caught. She wasn't embarrassed that she was caught with Eli, she was just embarrassed that someone caught them in such an intimate moment at all. And she was a little mad at Eli for first of all, kissing her like that publicly, and two, he was so nonchalant about the whole thing. Y/n was mortified and tried to become one with Eli's jacket as she hid in his shoulder.

After the incident in the hallway, y/n refused to kiss 'Hawk' the rest of the day. They were walking out to his car when he confronted her about it,

"So what was up with this morning? Are you embarrassed to be with me or something?"

"What? Oh my god no, of course not. I was just embarrassed to be caught like that at all, and to be honest I was kinda mad at you for putting us in that position where we could be caught by anyone."

"Oh," His face fell and he refused to meet her gaze.

"Hey, what has gotten into you lately? You act like that when we're around other people, and you're possessive and touchy, but as soon as we get into your car at the end of the day, you go back to sweet old Eli."

"I'm just trying to fit in, Sensei told me that if I wanted people to stop making fun of my lip, then I needed to flip the script, so that's what I did, I flipped the script. It's why I got the mohawk and it's why I've been acting so weird. I'm sorry."

"You don't have to be sorry, baby, I'm not upset with you. I understand why you did it now but I don't understand why you didn't tell me to begin with."

"I was afraid you'd think I was a loser for 'conforming' and leave me. You're always talking about how we should all just be our authentic selves, society be damned, but for some of us, being accepted as part of society is all we want."
"Baby, if this is who you are, then of course I support you. You're not a loser, you never were. You may have been a dork, but that's why I fell in love with you. And I'll admit, I was pretty upset at first but I realized it wasn't worth losing you. But, please, can we keep the over the top pda to a minimum?"

He laughed and said, "Sure, but I get to call you pet names."

"Oh yeah? Like what?"

"Hmmm what about sexy?" He waggled his eyebrows suggestively and she couldn't hold back her laughter.

"Oh god, that sure would be something."

"Okay, but in all seriousness, thank you. I'm sorry for how I've been treating you in front of my friends and I promise I'll clean up my act. Can I ask you a favor?"

"Of course Eli."

"Yeah, can we keep how our relationship actually is a secret? Not that we're together or anything, just how I am around you, needs to stay between you and me. This kind of goes along with my asking you to call me Hawk when we're around people, I'm building this new persona and to truly become him, I need to get people to stop thinking of me as the nerd who couldn't stand up for himself."

"Of course, but only if you promise to still be sweet, nerdy Eli when it's just the two of us."

"I promise." He grinned and leaned over to kiss her which she happily reciprocated and they got to finish their makeout from earlier, this time with a bit more privacy.
