After a long night of small-time robberies, petty crimes, and idiot criminals, Dick finally climbed through his apartment window, more than grateful to be home. This was the fourth night in a row patrols had gone longer than expected, plus the stress of joining the police department— suffice to say, he was absolutely exhausted.

Perhaps that was the reason he failed to notice a presence in his apartment— a small, friendly presence... also known as Damian Wayne.

Damian had been sent by Bruce to fetch his big brother for some important mission that they simply couldn't accomplish by themselves— which was absolute bullshit to Damian. He could've taken down the bad guy all by himself. But, still, he was glad for the excuse to see Dick.
The boy would never admit it, but Dick was his favorite person on Earth. He much preferred the oldest Robin to any of the others— or even Batman himself.

So, while Dick was out on what Damian assumed to be patrol, the boy snuck in the young man's apartment and took a seat on his couch, patiently awaiting his return.
He waited, and he waited, and he waited. Now, Damian was always a patient person— a consequence of his former life. But even he was beginning to bore. It must've been close to sunrise when Dick finally stumbled back through the window, looking like complete shit (Damian didn't like that one bit).

The young superhero's face was covered in bruises and there were several tears in his Nightwing suit— Damian really didn't like that. To his relief, the injuries all looked minor, but still...
It severely worried Damian that Dick didn't even notice he was there— that was odd, very odd. Usually, Dick would've sensed him within seconds. But, this time, he didn't. He just grumbled some words under his breath and staggered back to his bedroom. Damian, quietly and carefully, followed after him and watched as his brother pulled off his mask and fell face-first onto the bed.

Damian frowned, a certain unease rising within him. Dick had gone to bed with his suit still on? That was number one on Bruce's 'don't do' list. And Dick was a little boy-scout. He always followed the rules. And if he didn't, it meant he physically didn't have the strength to...

So, it was then that a genius plan formed in Damian's head.

For the foreseeable future, he would follow Dick whenever the man went out on patrol and simply take down the bad guys before Dick had to. That way, he would have less work to do and would be less tired. That was a good plan, wasn't it? Damian thought so...

After all, it was Damian's job to protect Dick. The eldest Robin was the only person Damian considered to be actually family and Damian always protected family— no matter what.

And, Dick... well, Dick was the nicest person Damian had ever met in his life.
He'd never complained when taking care of Dami, he'd never showed any sign of distress, and he always went out of his way to make Damian feel like he was his true, blood-brother.

So, it was Damian's turn to return the favor...

Similar to a puppy, the young boy curled up on the edge of his big brother's bed, preparing to stand guard all night— which is exactly what he did.

And, nearly two hours later when the sun began to rise and Dick's alarm blared through the small apartment, Damian took a hiding spot and kept a careful eye on the older boy.

He watched the former Robin drag himself out of bed, make his coffee, and quickly get ready for work before finally heading out the door— with Damian following close behind.

The pair (distanced by a couple dozen feet) walked down the sidewalk all the way to Dick's precinct, where Damian ducked in the back door to avoid suspicion.

After that, the day was all but eventful. Damian hid in a corner and watched Dick do paperwork for what seemed like forever (translation: 2 hours), then found a bit of pleasure in seeing Dick's elder partner get on his ass about something (yeah, Damian loved his brother, but he also liked a bit of fun sometimes).

All in all, it seemed like a perfectly normal day. At least, until six o'clock came around and it was time to return home.
By then, Damian had been actively dodging Bruce's calls and it was becoming painfully obvious that he couldn't keep this little mission up forever. Eventually, he'd have to come up with a permanent plan.
All the boy knew for sure was that there was absolutely no way in hell he was leaving Dick alone.

And, so, he didn't. Just as the kid planned, he went out on patrol with Dick, taking down each and every bad guy before the eldest Wayne son even saw them (and ignoring about 50 calls from Bruce in the process).
Damian thought he was home-free, having saved his big bro from a long night of work, when, suddenly, Nightwing spoke,

"Gonna come out and see me tonight, Dami?"
