Wally had been dead for a week as far as he could tell. It was a bit difficult considering they don't exactly make ghost calendars, but about a week was his best guess.
Death wasn't nearly as bad as he thought it was gonna be. He kinda just ran around places and stalked people-- so... basically what he did when he was alive. Only, now, the people didn't know he was there. They couldn't see him, hear him, sense him, anything. He was, well, a ghost.
He'd hung out with his Uncle Barry and Aunt Iris the first few days. They were pretty upset. He couldn't bear to leave them until he knew they'd be okay. He couldn't console them, of course, but he felt better keeping an eye on them. Plus, they had each other. It was constant hugs and reassurances and looking at pictures of their deceased nephew. But it was the funeral that really helped them get closure. They soon went back to work and started to move past their grief.
The funeral... God, that was something Wally didn't like. He always wanted to make people laugh, but all he was doing post-mortem was making them cry. Artemis, M'gann, Clark, Roy, Kaldur, Bart, even Bruce looked a little misty. But none more so than Wally's boyfriend, Dick.
It may or may not surprise you that the nineteen-year-old didn't attend the funeral. In fact, Wally had to abracadabra himself (walk) back to the Manor to even find the love of his life holed up in his bedroom.
For the first time since his premature death, Wally was heartbroken. He'd tried not to think about Dick while hanging around the Wests' home, but now there was no avoiding it. His boyfriend— the person he was going to spend his entire life with— was still living while Wally wasn't. That didn't seem very fair.
"Dickie..." Wally had to hold back tears as he approached his boyfriend's crumpled-up form in bed. The redhead climbed onto the bed, laying next to and looking at Dick. He stared into the younger boy's murky sapphire eyes that were dark and surrounded by red. He looked like he'd been crying for days but tears were still spilling.
"Please don't cry, baby," Wally muttered, his own tears beginning to spill down his face. "I'm right here." He reached out to wipe Dick's tears away, but it did no good. His hand just went right through the younger boy's face. Wally let out an exclamation of frustration. This dead thing was really getting on his nerves.
He knew he had to do something to console his boyfriend. It was, after all, his own fault for dying. Dick had told him that running up sides of buildings was a bad idea. But had he listened? No. He thought it would be fun to see just how high he could go and, surprise surprise, he'd tripped. What a stupid fucking way to go out. But, hey, at least it screamed Wally.
"I know what will make you feel better," Wally told his boyfriend, smiling to himself as he climbed off the bed and walked over to Dick's closet. He spotted what he was looking for and went to grab it, but was annoyed to find that he couldn't get a hold on that either. He sighed loudly to himself, looking up at the sky, "For the love of God, let me do this one damned thing." He went to grab the object and, as a cosmic don't doubt me, his hand latched onto the plushie.
Wally laughed to himself, hugging the stuffed blue bird to himself before skipping across the room and launching himself back onto Dick's bed. Miraculously, Dick hadn't noticed the floating toy coming towards him but he sure as hell noticed it being tucked in his arms. He jumped about ten feet in the air and scurried off the bed, breathing heavily.
Wally couldn't help but laugh at the reaction. He grabbed the toy again and climbed off the bed, going over to Dick. He held the animal out for Dick to stare worriedly at.
"I'm losing my mind," he uttered quietly to himself, rubbing his eyes so hard it left a red mark on each of them.
Wally huffed, moving closer and waving the toy in Dick's face. The younger boy reached out hesitantly, poking it ever so slightly before jerking back. His eyes were wide as he repeated this movement, fully running his fingers through the soft fabric this time. His eyes fluttered up and down as he exhaled softly, finally taking the plushie in his hands and cradling it close to his chest. Tears streamed from his sapphire eyes as he looked up and stared right at Wally's face.
"Wally," he cried out, racing forward and throwing his arms around the redhead, holding on so tightly that Wally would have trouble breathing if he were alive.
The older boy hugged back just as tightly and breathed out, "You can see me?"
Wally could feel Dick nod and desperately grab at the back of his shirt as if he wanted a good grip to keep Wally with him no matter what. Soft sobs wracked his body as he buried his face in the taller boy's neck.
"Don't leave me again," Dick cried, voice wavering. "Please don't ever leave me again. I can't- I can't do this without you."
Wally leaned down and placed a kiss on top of Dick's head, breathing in the strawberry scent of his ebony curls. "I won't, Dickie. I promise."
