"Hey," Wally smiled warmly at his boyfriend as the raven-haired man climbed through their apartment window, still dressed in his Nightwing suit. The redhead kissed the taller man lovingly, "You're home later than usual. Everything okay?"

Dick nodded and gave Wally a hollow smile that didn't quite reached his now-unmasked, blue eyes. "Yeah, everything's good, babe. The criminals just decided to make the night hard on me, I guess," he chuckled half-heartedly.

"Aw," Wally messed with the younger man's already unkempt hair and gave a toothy grin. "Well, next time, good ol' Kid Flash'll go out with you and show 'em who's boss."

Dick's lips upturned into a small smile, "I thought good ol' Kid Flash went into retirement like the old man he is."

Wally scoffed, grabbing Dick's arm and leading him to the kitchen. "Old man, my ass. And, besides, if my perfect boyfriend is gonna keep going out there, I sure as hell am, too. After all, we wouldn't want that pretty face of yours to get beat up too bad..." he stated with a small smirk as he traced a bruise on Dick's cheek with his thumb.

Dick gave the speedster a condescending smile as he went to work brewing a cup of coffee. "Whatever you gotta tell yourself, Kid Idiot."

Wally grinned boyishly.

Dick chuckled to himself, letting out a soft sigh as he watched the hot, brown liquid trickle into his mug. He let his eyes wander over to his boyfriend, "So, what're you still doing up, Walls? It's four AM. Don't you have work in the morning?"

Wally shook his head, "Something about an emergency on campus. The whole college is shut down for the day. And, besides, I wanted wait up for you. We hardly see each other anymore..."

Dick smiled sadly, walking over to Wally and running his fingers through the older boy's red hair. "That's my fault... I'm sorry..."

Wally pulled the taller man into his muscular arms, "Don't say that, Dickie-"

"It's the truth..."

"No, it's not!" Wally scolded gently. "Look, we've both got hectic work schedules, plus your nightly extra curriculars. Things have just been crazy since we moved in. It isn't anyone's fault so, please, stop blaming yourself."

Dick nodded, running his thumb across Wally's freckled cheek. His sad, blue eyes stared into Wally's concerned, green one's. "I love you, y'know?"

Wally ran his fingers through Dick's untamable raven hair and smiled, "I know." He stared into the depths of Dick's breathtaking irises, "Are you sure you're okay, baby? You know you can tell me if something's wrong..."

Dick smiled, laying a gentle kiss on Wally's lips. "I know, Walls. But I promise, everything's fine. I'm just tired— that's all."

Wally sighed softly, pursing his lips in discontent, "Well, yeah, maybe that's 'cause you keep staying out until the crack of dawn. It's not healthy, Richard Grayson!"

Dick scoffed, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes, "Okay, Mom."

Wally exhaled sharply and began herding the acrobat into their shared bedroom, "Lord knows you need one..."

"No.... n- no, don't..."

Wally opened his eyes to a quiet murmuring beside him. Concern arising in him, the redhead rolled over to see his boyfriend's eyes darting back and forth beneath his closed eyelids and sweat dripping down his forehead. The sheets were twisted in his legs and his face looked terrified.

Ignoring the thumping of his heart, Wally gently shook Dick, making him awaken with a soft gasp. For a moment, the pair just laid there. Dick was still, eyes wide and breathing heavy. Wally was propped on his side, watching his lover with concern.

"You okay, baby?" Wally softly asked after a bit of silence.

Dick nodded, still catching his breath. He squeezed his eyes shut and put his hands on his face. "I'm- I'm fine, Walls. Don't worry, it was nothing."

Wally's eyebrows rose quizzically, "Really? 'Cause that's what you said before. I didn't believe you then and I definitely don't believe you now."

Dick exhaled softly, finally meeting Wally's worried gaze. "It was just... something that happened at work. That's all. Really... no big deal..."

Wally frowned, taking Dick's tan, scarred hands in his pale and smooth ones, "If it's bothering you, Dickie, it's important. Please, talk to me so I can help you."

Dick hesitated, but finally gave in. He squeezed his eyes shut and took in a deep, shaky sigh. "There was... this kid. I- I was first on scene so I went up there to talk her down..."

Wally's eyes widened, "You mean she...?"

Dick nodded, lip quivering, "She kept- she kept talking about her family— how they were never there for her. And- and how she had no one. She said she was all alone in the world, Walls. I- I tried telling her she was wrong. I tried- I tried to tell her that I cared. But... she wouldn't- she wouldn't listen. She just- she kept getting closer and closer to the edge! I- I froze up! I didn't know what to do, Wally! I begged her- I begged her- not to do it! I told her I'd be there for her! I told her I'd help her! But she just- she ignored me! She told me she was s- sorry and she- she- she- she jumped."

Before Dick had even finished, Wally had his arms around the trembling man. He whispered that it wasn't Dick's fault and that there wasn't anything he could've done. But Dick couldn't seem to hear him.

A tear slipped down the blue-eyed man's face as a sob wracked his body and he choked out, "She- she hit the sidewalk so hard... the- the noise of her head-" he forced out the words like poison. "It was- it was horrible... I- I can't get it out of my mind..."

"Oh, Dickie..." Wally cradled the younger man in his arms, his own ocean of tears falling down his face. "I'm so sorry..."

Not knowing what else to say, Wally just say there holding the man he loved. He held him and let him cry until the sun had long rose over the horizon. He held him until finally the tears subsided and all that remained was a broken man.

"Thank you, Wally..." Dick choked out, voice hoarse from the tears.

Wally stroked his soulmate's hair, "I'll always be here for you, baby. No matter what..."
