"Ready, Chum?" Batman ruffled his little Robin's hair as the energetic boy burst out of the changing room, buzzing with excitement.
"Yeah!" the ten-year-old exclaimed as he skipped over to the Batmobile. He was very much anticipating the mission he and his father figure were about to go on— rounding up all the animals that had escaped from Gotham Zoo. The little boy, growing up in the circus the way he did, had a very soft spot for animals of all kinds. He loved them and they seemed to love him right back.
"Excited, huh?" Batman asked with a soft chuckle, hitting his foot on the gas and making the Batmobile speed out of the cave.
Robin nodded vigorously, "Do you think we'll see a tiger?! Or an elephant?!"
Batman hummed, amused by his young sidekick, "Maybe. But be careful when we get there, okay? These animals are probably very scared and likely to attack if threatened. I don't want you getting hurt."
Robin scoffed, "An animal would never hurt me! They're my friends!"
Batman nodded with a small laugh, "Even so, bud, just be careful, okay?"
"Okay," Robin chirped. He turned to his mentor, "Bruce?"
Batman looked over at the boy for a brief moment before returning his eyes to the road, "Yeah, Chum?"
Robin looked at the man with what had to have been the most innocent expression on the planet, "Can I have an elephant?"
The twenty-seven-year-old let out a soft laugh, "I don't know about that, Dickie. How about a dog or a cat instead?"
"Okay," Robin beamed. "I love you, Bruce."
Batman felt his heart begin to melt, looking over at his son with an endearing gaze, "I love you too, buddy."

"Robin, wait up!" Batman called with a short laugh as his partner ran ahead to a large elephant that was stomping down the streets of downtown Gotham.
"Hello," Robin breathed as he slowed to a stop in front of the large animal. "I'm Robin. What's your name?"
The elephant trumpeted in response, ruffling Robin's hair with her long nose.
Robin giggled, "Nice to meet you, ma'am."
The animal let out a gentle roar, scooping the young sidekick up and putting him on her back. He giggled with joy, letting out a squeal of excitement as the elephant started walking back towards Batman, who'd been watching with awe and amusement.
"Having fun?" the man called to his ward.
"Uh, huh!" Robin giggled, gently running his hand along the animal's back.
"Tell her to head back to the zoo while you're up there!" Batman yelled with a laugh.
Robin nodded, a wide grin on his face as he softly said something to the large animal. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, the elephant trumpeted and started off in the opposite direction— towards the zoo.
Batman chuckled, watching in awe, "How does he do that?"

"Robin!" Batman called after his ward as said boy raced by on the back on a tiger. "Would you tell your friend to slow down?! I can't keep up!"
"That's not his fault!" the ten-year-old yelled back as the animal sped up. A giggle tore from his upturned lips, eyes squeezed shut in pure joy. He leant forward against the tiger's back, burying his face in the animal's fur.
"Robin!" Batman called after him with a laugh as the tiger and boy disappeared into the zoo gates. The man slowed to a stop, taking a moment to catch his breath. If only he could get a free ride on a tiger...
"How cool was that?!" a very energetic little boy emerged from the confines of the tiger entrapment. He skipped to his mentor, launching himself into the man's arms.
"Very cool," the young man laughed endearingly, wrapping his arms around the child to keep him securely placed against his chest.
"Look, B!" Robin pointed off to the side. "There's all the penguins!" He pushed himself away from his surrogate father and raced towards the small water animals.
Batman watched from a distance as his kid led the penguins into the zoo like an elvish army from Lord of the Rings. He chuckled to himself when the boy finally skipped back out to him, stifling a yawn.
"What'd you say we let the police take care of the rest?" Batman asked the little boy, picking him up into his arms. "It's getting pretty late and I know you wanna get home in time to eat some ice cream before bed."
Robin's masked eyes widened excitedly, "Ice cream?"
"Uh, huh," Batman grinned to himself as he started back to where the Batmobile was parked, Robin still securely in his arms.
Robin wrapped his arms around Batman's neck, laying his head on the vigilante's shoulder before innocently asking, "Will you watch a movie with me while we eat the ice cream?"
"Sure, buddy," Batman smiled to himself. It was silent for a moment before the twenty-seven-year-old spoke up again, "I'm proud of you, Dickie. You did good today."
The man felt Robin's face contort into a smile through the fabric of his suit. "Thanks, Bruce. I'm proud of you too."
