Chapter 65 - Athena

I didn't do anything for a long time.

I just kept myself curled up in a ball until I hear a knock at the door.

"M' Lady, may I come in? Lord Theo wished for me to check up on you." Said a female voice from the other side.

I wiped the tears from my eyes, with my sleeve and sat up, making the room spin in the process.

I felt dehydrated, and hungry, more then tired now.

I wonder how long I had been in here, crying.

There was no way to tell time here, oddly, no show of any watch, not even so much as a grandfather clock or a simple alarm clock.

Weird.

"Y -. Yes. You can come in." I choke out.

The door slowly opened and a tall woman with dark curly brown hair and kind blue eyes stood in the doorway. She had freshly cleaned bath towels in her arms.

"Here let me help you." I say, getting up and quickly walking over to her.

She started to protest but I take half of the tall stack in my hands.

"Where too?" I asked, forcing a smile.

She stared at me, as if not sure how to handle this type of situation from the residents of the castle.

"Um... To your master bathroom, Miss." She replied, nodding towards an archway.

I nod and head towards it.

"I'm Athena," I tell her, introducing myself.

The maid said nothing for some time and I wondered if she'd been ordered by Theo not to make small talk with me, fearing that others will soon find out that I was the true queen of this realm, but, then she stopped in the middle of the overly sized bathroom and turned to smile at me.

"I know, dear, everyone in this castle knows who YOU are." She told me, not in a snarky and mean way, but more in a kind and motherly way.

"They -. They do?" I squeaked out.

She nods as she places the towels on a rack near a towel holder.

"You are Lord Theo's number one." She stated.

I stare at her.

Number one?

"What do you mean, number one?" I asked as she takes my stack of towel and started to put them away too.

"Number one lover of course." She answered, and I felt my cheeks get hot.

Lover?

"We aren't lovers." I grumbled. "And number one? You mean Theo -."

"Has more then one lover? Yes. Indeed he does. He also has a ton of children by those lovers to carry on his legacy here, help with the war going on, that sort of thing." The maid says.

I'm completely stunned.

Theo has other children besides Eve?

"Um...Can I ask you something? Why are you so comfortable talking about your boss this way? Won't he -. You know, kill you or something?" I asked, nervously, looking around as if the walls suddenly had eyes and ears.

I really didn't want Theo to be listening to us talk about him.

"No dear, because I'm the Head of the Maids here. Nothing is kept secret from me by Lord Theo." She replied.

I scoffed at that.

I doubt she knew EVERYTHING.

"I'm Lyra, by the way." Lyra said, finally introducing herself.
