ZEHRA POV
"Dewey! Louie!" A woman yells, making me jump, and interrupt Louie's answer. Dewey and Louie exchange excited looks and run to the stairs to greet a blonde woman with brown eyes. "How are my favorite nephews?" She asks, grinning at the boys.
"AUNT GOLDIE!" They cheer and run up to hug her.
She giggles and kisses the top of their heads, then her eyes meet mine...
UM- Embarrassing!!!
My lazy ass is sitting on the couch, instead of greeting her. But in my defense, I'm now holding Eve because she wanted me.
Goldie's eye are filled with adoration and wonder. "My my..." She starts as they all come back to sit on the couch. I'm still holding Eve, with Dewey next to me, and Louie and Goldie together. "If it isn't the hero of this story..." She says smirking.
I let out a nervous laugh and Dewey grabs my hand. I know how important this is for him- me meeting his whole family- but... She won't try to change the way we're planning to change the prophecy... right?
Goldie notices Dewey holding my hand, and my sudden shift in demeanor.
"Zehra... Right?" She raises an eyebrow, and I nod. "I'm Goldie O' Gilt, but you already know who I am." She says, narrowing her eyes and smirking.
I slowly nod.
"Well, I must say, it truly is an honor to meet you, Zehra." She holds her hand out and I shake it, holding Eve with one arm. "I know you'll save us and make me proud."
I gulp.
Now I have to?!
No. We brought her here to think of an other way.
"Actually, Aunt Goldie," Louie starts, looking at my nervousness and lack of confidence at her comment. "We were planning on changing the prophecy."
Goldie tilts her head. "I don't think that's possible, Sharpie." She says, ruffling his hair. "The future is already foreseen. We can't change it. Zehra and Athena will fight, one of them will die, Eve will save the demons, unless Zehra wins." She gives me a wink. "Which is what I'm rooting for."
I laugh and stand up, handing Eve to Louie, and head into the kitchen.
I lean on the sink counter, and sigh.
Why is this so hard?
Is it too much to ask for a normal life?
Why is this happening to me?!
"Because you're special..." A male voice says behind me.
I jump and turn around in a fighting stance, my powers activated and ready bolts on my hands, my eyes glowing ferociously. I face a man in a hoodie, and a mask covering his face.
I might not be able to see him. But I can hear him just fine. He sounds familiar.... He really does.
Still not lowering my hands, I speak to him. "What do you mean special? What's so special about me?"
He sighs an aggravated sigh. "Look, kid. Everything you've been through? Experiment, family, friends, isolation- all that... were stepping stones to the prophecy."
"Is there a way to change the prophecy?" I ask the man.
It seems as though he smiles. "Ahh! Smart kid you are! Like your brother." Wait he knows Matt?! "Yes. There is always a way to change your destiny, Zehra."
HOW DOES HE KNOW MY NAME?!
"H- How do I do it?" I ask, dropping my hands to my sides, but my eyes are still blue and glowing.
He laughs. "Ever heard of karma? Every duck has the power to change their destiny by changing their karma. Only we can create the future that we want. One has no power to control their karma, but has all the power to change the karma."
I think about that. He means to say, I can't control when or where the universe decides to throw a wrecking ball at me, but if I keep my head up and show how much love and happiness I have, then that so called wrecking ball, may actually be made of love and happiness.
"You want me to focus... on the now?" I ask, tilting my head.
He snaps his fingers. "Bingo! You need to not worry about the future and be happy. That's all that's really important in life."
I smile and nod. "Thank you- er..."
He realizes he hasn't introduced himself and stands up straight. "Oh, you can call me The Game Master."
I smile and feel my eyes vanish. "Well, Game Master-"
He bows. "At your service."
"-I'd like to thank you for putting my mind at ease. Is there anything I can get you? A cup of water maybe?" I ask, turning around and reaching for a glass, until he stops me.
"Oh, that's quiet all right, miss. I have someone expecting me." He checks his wrist, and a hologram pops up, showing the time. "In fact, he should be at the courtyard right now..." He looks back at me and grabs my hand, bowing and kissing it as if I'm royalty. "Thank you for your time, but I'd better be going."
I pull my hand away. "Of course, no problem. Bye, Game Master."
He waves and fades away...
What. The. Hell. Just. Fucking. Happened?
After a good 30 seconds of staring into nothing, Dewey walk in grabbing my waist and pulling me against him.
"Hey..." He starts and wraps his arms around me, embracing me in a warm hug. "I hope Aunt Goldie didn't scare ya too much... She can be... a little intimidating."
I hug back, gripping his shirt to see if this is real, and I saw a a man appear and disappear in front of me. "A little?" I say almost breathless.
He chuckles and hides his head in my neck, his breath tickling my skin when he talks. "Yeah, okay, a lot. She's not trying to be, though. She's just scared for the future. Just like the rest of us."
I sigh. "I know..."
'I just wish she wouldn't put this much pressure on me...'
Game Master's words echo in my mind,
"You need to not worry about the future and be happy."
I smile and breath in Dewey, hugging him tighter.
'I will, Game Master. Don't worry.'
MATT POV
Mak is a man of his word, I've learned.
He was late, but he said he was talking with his "Master", so I let it pass.
"Now what is it about Eve?" I order.
He chuckles and shakes his head. "Your Highness, you and Eve have imprinted on each other." He tilts his head. "Do you know what that is?"
I narrow my eyes and shake my head.
Why is this man speaking in code???
"It's in the blue book I gave you... You have bonded with Eve, and that bond cannot be broken. Eve is going to come to you, and you need to be by her side, no matter the cost." He says, his eyes glowing in the red sun.
"Is that it?" I ask, a bit annoyed.
He studies me for a while. "For now... Good night, sire."
Why did he tell me that? I mean, I already knew it... but he just clarified it. I guess I needed that.. who knows?
As I walk away, I get stopped because a man in a hoodie and hat comes in front.
"Sorry I'm late..." He says to me. "I was helping your sister."
W-wait, WHAT?!
He looks at me and chuckles at the fear in my eyes. "I need to tell you some stuff, Your Highness ..."
Why does it sound like he's mocking me...?
