Small headcanon before this chapter that i thought of because...reasons, because the Golden Heart Grimoire is so rare and doesn't come out too often, Kaito is always by himself, he's constantly by himself and he hates it. So when he has someone to be with, in this case y/n, he has separation anxiety from her when he's out of the grimoire. He constantly needs to know where she is if they're together because he is afraid of being left alone again.

Anyways on with the chapter :)
-------------------------------------------------------------

"No!" Kaito screams, his fists clenching in anger. "You're lying! She's not dying! She isn't!"

"Kai...to?"

"She can't be dying! I've been so careful she can't be dying! No! I refuse to believe it!"

"Unfortunately she is. I specialize in curses and this is a curse" Kiyoko sighs

"Shut up!" He screams, tears beginning to pour down his face. "You don't know anything! She is not dying! She can't die! She's not dying....she's not dying...."

"Kaito..." I get up and walk to his crying form on the floor. I quickly embrace him into my arms as he lets out cries of pain. He continues to cry and cling tightly to my cloak as he tries to stop his tears.

"P-Please Y/n...you can't die...I don't want to be alone anymore...please don't leave me alone anymore..."

"I won't Kaito....I won't"

The fly home is silent. Kaito doesn't let go of my cloak while Yuno doesn't dare look at me, the tension in the air making shivers travel up my spine. A breeze flies through the air making me shudder, Yuno doesn't flinch and Kaito doesn't either. Letting out a sigh, my heart begins to drop as I think about the two of them. Kaito seems to not be taking this well and Yuno...I'm not even sure how he's taking this. Finally getting back to the base, I get off my broom, Kaito still attached to me and walk to my room. Just as I'm about to close the door, Yuno keeps it open, and walks in himself. I drop to the floor, letting out a quiet groan as I try to soothe Kaito into letting me go, but it only caused him to cling tighter.

"So king of the element spirits, care to explain what just happened?" Yuno crosses his arms, a scowl evident on his face.

'Uh oh'

Kaito's head moves from my shoulder to meet Yuno's eyes, his gaze sending daggers at the dark haired boy in front of us. He doesn't say anything, just moves his head back to where it was.

"You knew this entire time and sent us on some quest to find information that you already knew?"
Kaito starts to tense, but Yuno doesn't stop there. "Aren't you the one that's supposed to protect her"

"SHUT UP!" He yells, frustrated tears forming in his eyes. He uses his wind to send Yuno flying out of the room. "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE" He again uses his wind to slam the door shut and lock it so he doesn't come back. His tears begin to pour out again and I hold him tightly as he lets out everything he's been holding in. I move my hand to softly comb through his blue locks and he eventually calms down.

"Kaito...how much can you tell me about this curse?"

He sniffs and rubs his eyes, then moves to lean against the bed, looking down at the floor. "The curse is the fate of all the holders of the Golden Heart grimoire. It's sort of a punishment for having so much power. Usually it comes after the holder uses Mana Queen for the first time, which is why I didn't think it as an option. For as long as I could remember everyone has passed from the curse, but they were all at peace, mainly because they hated their power and just wanted their life to end. I watched each one of them die in front of me" his voice begins to crack and he covers his eyes. "And I couldn't do anything. I don't get it though I've been so careful with you....but I didn't even matter in the end."

"Kaito...."

He hangs his head down, covering his eyes with his hands to cover his tears. I gently grab his hands, pulling him into a hug which shocks him quite a bit. He lets out a light gasp, but melts into my touch and begins to cling tightly to me again.

"Please...don't die" He whispers

"I won't Kaito...."

"...and that's a promise"

~Evening~

I managed to calm Kaito down a bit to the point where he stopped crying and was comfortable going out of my room. I sit outside on the bench near the fountain, staring up at the golden colored sky and Kaito sitting on my shoulder. The wind blows gently causing me to shiver a bit as I run my finger over the markings decorating my left arm. Footsteps are heard from behind me and I let my arm down, looking back to see Yuno standing as if he's waiting for something. His gaze seems to pierce my soul, the leaves around us beginning to be lifted into the wind. Kaito flies off my shoulder, bowing to Yuno as a sort of apology, then takes his place in my grimoire. I turn back around, my gaze glued to my hands sitting on my lap. He takes a seat on the bench next to me and silence fills the air. I begin to pull at the hem of my sweater, beginning to get lost in thought, but am brought back to reality when Yuno takes my hand into his. Taken aback, my eyes shoot up to his, noticing a sort of sorrowful look in his gaze. I gentle place my free hand on his other cheek which causes him to close his eyes and lean into my touch, but only opens his eyes again, his face still painted with worry.

"Are...Are you really dying Y/n?"

I stay quiet for a minute, thinking of what the best answer would be. Letting out a breath, I gulp and squeeze his hand tighter. "Yeah...as of right now that's what it looks like"

He leans forward, throwing his head on my shoulder and letting out a sharp breath. He traces his index finger over the markings, examining them closely, his eyes showing nothing but concentration. Stoping abruptly, he grabs my cheeks, pressing his lips onto mine quickly, yet softly. He carefully moved his arms to pull me closer to him and I wrap my arms around his neck as the kiss begins to get more passionate. The once cold air I can no longer feel, just the warmth of Yuno's lips and embrace. I pull away from him and burry my head into his chest as he holds me close to him, not daring to let go. He rakes his fingers through my hair gently as the sky starts to get darker, however the two of us don't move from our position.

"Hey Yuno?"He hums quietly, stopping his movements. Move away from him, placing my hand gently on his cheek, causing him to flinch a little at my touch. "I'm not going to die. Not any time soon. There has to be a way to break this curse"

"Isn't it part of having the Golden Heart's powers?"

I shake my head. "I doubt it, mainly because remember that book we found in that dungeon when I barely joined Golden Dawn? I don't remember anything about a curse in there. Plus if what Kaito said is true, then this can't be the curse he's talking about if I haven't even learned that spell or anything about it."

"What did he say?"

"Usually, the holders would fall under the curse after they used a spell called Mana Queen, and from there they would die after a certain period of time, but I've never even learned that spell, I've haven't even done spirit dive in all of the elements. That's why I think this isn't the curse he's talking about."

"So you think that witch was wrong?"

"Not wrong per se" I say, placing my hand on my chin in a thinking position. "She said it was a curse, but didn't specifically say what curse. For all we know it could be anything."

I stand up, carefully fixing my my uniform and taking a deep breath. I look up towards the sky, the moon now shingling brightly, illuminating the night. "I'm going to go talk to the Captain, and see what I can find out about curses. Lolopechka might know some stuff about curses as well, maybe this has something to do with the devils of the Spade kingdom-"

Yuno picks be up carefully, yet swiftly, stopping me from speaking anymore. My breath hitches as he walks to his room, then he lays me on his bed as he lays down as well. "Worry about that tomorrow, for now, just rest"

A smile forms on my lips as I cuddle into him, hearing his heartbeat and beginning to feel sleepy. "Yeah...okay"
