Chapter 49 - To Protect The Faraway Future

~3 days later~

The harsh wind blew as the group of us now waited for Nacht to take us to the Spade kingdom, our attack just about ready. I exhale, my breath appearing in front of me due to the cold and Nacht finally looks at all of us, nodding and acknowledging that everyone is here.

"Where is Asta?" Captain Fuegoleon asks, to which Nacht simply smiles as usual

"He might take a bit more time"

'To be fair we only had three days'

"Kah! Wasn't expecting him anyways"

"Awww Asta's not coming?" I turn to see Sally and the other members from the Eye of the midnight sun also coming with us

"Remind me again why they're coming" Kaito sighs, crossing his arms

"Something about a debt..." I trail, but shake my head as my gaze turns to Yuno on the other side of the lineup

We exchanged glances earlier, acknowledging each other's presence and both went our separate ways. This time, I chose not to dwell on it, after all, my full attention needs to be on this fight. If I'm not I could lose my life.

"Let's get going, Asta will be here" Nacht says

"Before he does, I'll take care of it" Yuno announces, earning sighs from both Kaito and I

Nacht uses his magic to get us in the palace, Kaito and I stand still as everyone rushes inside. We quickly look for an opening somewhere else, racing though and taking out the soldiers without breaking a sweat.

~Flashback~

"Don't use so much of your energy over and over again. That's why you're getting so exhausted so quick"

"What do you mean?"

"To put it simply, channel the same amount of mana in your fist for example if you're punching someone, and don't release it. If you hit them, they'll still take damage but you won't get as tired easily"

"I see...that makes sense"

"Let's go again then"

~another flashback~

"Y/n what are you doing?" Kaito flies over to my shoulder

"Using my light magic to draw a magic circle. It'll help with a lot especially during our fight and will get me closer to using Mana Queen"

"Y/n...."

"It's going to be okay Kaito. I made a promise to you, to Yuno, to captain, and to my family. And I intend to keep it"

"Why aren't you going with everyone else?" Kaito asks me as we arrive to the meeting place.

"I have a score to settle with Dante...it has to be me and no one else"
