Chapter 6- Training

I feel myself starting to wake up and I let out a loud groan

'Why is it time for me to get up already'

My night was pretty restless. I was still upset about Yuno, mainly because I've saved him using my magic and he's still extremely rude to me, but I just couldn't fall asleep. I was tossing and turning, changing my position, but nothing could help me sleep. I change into some training clothes and throw on my cloak before quickly rushing out of headquarters and jumping onto my broom. I head towards the black bulls headquarters, landing softly as I arrive.

'Captain Yami hasn't arrived yet' I should wait

5 minutes passed and still no Captain in sight. 'Well I didn't come here to do nothing, might as well start training'. I take a deep breath, opening my Grimoire and casting the same spell I casted that day.

'Don't let it take over Y/n....you can do this' I breathe deeply as the darkness starts to surround my body. I need stay focused. My eyes shoot open as I feel someone's presence and a dagger being thrown at me. I catch the dagger midair, but the dark magic starts to overflow. I panic and try to control the spell, but to no avail.

'Crap Crap Crap Crap'

"Dark Cloak dimension slash" A sword slashes through my dark magic, making it disperse. Yami stands upright with his sword over his shoulders and smoking.

"Seems like a powerful spell you got there. However, it means nothing if you can't control it, or stay focused while being on the defense"

I cock my head in confusion and he continues. "You didn't notice, but I've been standing behind that tree since you got here. I threw the dagger to see if you would be able to dodge it while continuing to cast the spell." I make an 'O' shape with my mouth, then let out a sigh.

"So in other words, we have a lot of work to do"

Captain Yami nods. "I'll be working you to the bone so you're going to have to surpass your limits, here and now. We'll start with a light sparing match just to see where you are"

I nod, pulling out my Grimoire. Captain Yami moves his hand up, motioning for me to stop. "No magic. Create a sword that you can use but that's it"

"No magic? But I thought I was training my magic"

"I'm going to teach you Ki"

"Ki? Oh it's that thing you mentioned yesterday."

"Ki is the natural energy given off by someone and something when they move. It's different from Mana because sometimes you can't sense it, but you can always sense Ki. Learn how to detect Ki and you can pretty much predict someone's moves and where they'll be. You can also sense when someone is lying"

"I see. How do you sense Ki?"

"Unlike Mana, you can't rely on your senses, you'll react too late. Visualize something halfway between instinct and prediction"

I give him a look of confusion. I don't quite understand what exactly I'm supposed to do. I let out a breath and get ready to fight as Yami gets prepared with his sword too. With mine in hand, he gives the command to start and I jump back, expecting a jump forward from him. He jumps to the side, starting to swing his sword at me. He then disappears and hits my back, causing me to fall forward.

"Wrong. You didn't react fast enough" I prop myself up using my arms and let out a shaky breath. I stand up and move my sword back in front of me.

"Let's try again" He nods, starting the match again. This continues for 2 hours and I'm beginning to feel exhausted. I shake my head, trying to snap my self out of the exhaustion. I move my sword, signaling I want to try again and he sighs

"Look kid, you're exhausted. It's almost 10 and you haven't taken a break. No one said that you had to master this today"

"You're the one that said to surpass my limits" I say in between huffs. "Yet you're the first one to tell me to rest"

He smirks, setting up for another try. This time I moved to the left and swung, which he blocks. I backflip, guessing he's gonna swing back, then move my sword to my side to block an attack to an area where he was going to attack. I smile, jumping back and throwing my hands in the air.

"I did it!" I let out an excited laugh, then fall on my ass.

"Nice job kid. Now that you know how, let's try with magic" He takes out his Grimoire, flipping through the pages. "Dark Cloaked Avidya Wild Slash"

A bunch of Captain Yami's attacks come straight for me and I effectively block all of them now that I know where they're going to go. I smirk, flipping throw my own grimoire to find my own spells.

"Shadow Slash" he also block my attacks, making them disperse.

~Evening~

"You're gonna have to be quicker than that if you want to get a hit on me kid" 

"I'm not done yet" I pant, flipping through my Grimoire again. Before I can attack, Captain Yami grabs my head, pulling me off the ground.

"We're done for today kid"

"But I'm not tired" 

"Please, you could barely talk while casting spells. We'll continue training tomorrow. Go back to your squad"

I obey, bowing goodbye before I get on my broom and fly away. A yawn escapes my lips as I get closer to the base. I jump off my broom and rub my eyes, trying to get rid of the sleepiness in my eyes. No one is around so I walk to my room and throw myself on my bed. I feel myself slipping into slumber and finally give in.

~dream~

I open my eyes and look around. I realize I'm not in my room anymore. My hand is smaller and well, I'm smaller.

'What the....'

A women in a purple dress walks up to me and picks me up. I get a better around, seeing I'm in a white room that I don't recognize. She pulls me into her embrace and starts stroking my head softly.

'Where am I?'

"My darling Y/n...."

'She knows my name...'

"Everything I've done and will do is to keep you safe...I've always loved you and always will" She pulls away and all I see is her h/c hair. I close my eyes again, then realize I'm in a different place. The mansion I grew up in. 

"Y/n...." Mom?

"I love you with all my heart, your father too"

'why am I having this dream...mom...dad...b/n...'

My eyes shoot open and I'm greeted with the soft moonlight shining through my window. I steady my breathing as I stand up, wiping the sweat off my face. Who was that women in my dream? Why did I have this dream? A knock at the door snaps me out of my daze and I walk over to open it.

"Mimosa? Is something wrong?"

"No, it's just I haven't seen you all day today. I just wanted to check up on you"

"Oh I see"

"Is everything ok? You seem kind of stressed out" Mimosa places a hand on my shoulder and I flinch at the contact

"I'm ok, just tired. I was training the whole day with Captain Yami"

"In that case I'll let you get some sleep" I nod and start to close the door. "Wait"

I pause, opening the door again. "yeah?"

"I know Yuno's been giving you a hard time, but it's because he sees you as a rival, just don't take it personally"

"Oh...okay...goodnight Mimosa" She smiles and I close the door, letting out a sigh

'A rival? Whatever, I'm too tired to think about this.' I glance up at the moon again. 

'After all....I need to figure myself out first'
