Chapter 56 - The Beginning of the End

Yuno's POV

She's here...alive

She was standing in front of me and I felt the air leave my lungs, so relieved I didn't know what to say

But she's different now

"Bell"

"My guess" She sighs, "She spoke with the previous holders and now knows of what happened to all of them, knows what was taken from them. By the looks of it, she wants to die in this battle"

I don't say anything, not sure exactly what to say. Does she really intend to die here? What about her sister? What about all of her friends? What about us?

~Flashback~

"I know you're not asleep" Y/n speaks softly, getting attention

"How did you know?"

"Your breathing"

"That's weird"

"It's not. You can tell if someone is asleep by their breathing"

"I know that. It's the fact that you're paying attention to my breathing"

"Stop trying to change the subject" She moves from my arms, forcing me to sit up. "Why aren't you asleep?"

"Just thinking is all"

"Oh no does it hurt?"

I glare at her, making her let out a light  laugh as she grabs my hands gently. 

"Sorry, just wanted to lighten the mood a little" 

I place my hand on her head, pulling her close to me, burying my head in her neck. "I just don't know what to think about all this"

"All what?"

"The curse...the devils...the heart kingdom"

She moves from my hold, placing her hands on both my cheeks. "Don't worry about any of that. It will all be ok in the end"

"How do you know that for sure"

"Because I want to stay alive and live. I refuse to die. So, I will be stubborn and not kick the bucket anytime soon"

A small smile graces my lips as she locks pinkies with me. "Pinky promise"

~Flashback end~

Are you going to go back on your word then? 

Y/N's POV

The fate of this world lies in my and Asta's hands

That's all there is to it

My only purpose here, the purpose for my power, the purpose for my survival a year ago is simply for me to stand here on the front lines to save everyone

Everyone charges on, diving head first into battle to save captain William and captain Yami. Asta uses devil union, the final attack beginning, everyone relying on what we can pull off here. I watch as he slices the behemoth, careful not to hurt either of the captains. A chill runs down my spine, feeling lucifero manifesting, our worst nightmare slowly creeping up on us. The behemoth is about to crash down on the people when Yuno unleashes his attack, making it smaller so it won't hurt anyone. Nacht and I make eye contact as I nod, follow behind Asta, my staff ready to consume the dark energy remaining. Once in my staff, I stand tall, looking behind to see a man hugging Yuno close.

"We're gonna bring back the peaceful spade kingdom!"

'That's right...the spade kingdom as no leader. He has to go back to lead his people'

I let out a shaky breath

'my wish is foolish then'

I shake my head, trying to get back into the battle mindset. This is far from over.

"Why are all you taking it easy? The sooner you get out of here, the better"

My eyes widen, the voice making me snap my head back behind me, a devil sitting on rubble near the soldiers. 

"After all, Lucifero's manifestation is half way through"

I turn back to where the devil motions, my blood run cold. I feel my body shake as he speaks in a hoarse, ominous voice

"You there...your heads are all raised far too high"

'Lucifero! He's here! Come on body move!'

His gaze turns to me, a sinister grin appearing on his face. As that happens, a feeling of gloom and death overtaking me. 

"You" He speaks to me, snapping me back into the battle mindset. I change my staff into a sword, holding it in a defensive position. 

He lets out yet another mocking laugh. "Did you really just draw a sword in front of me? Foolish girl"

He turns to Asta, moving quickly to him, so fast my eyes couldn't follow. "You were the bastard who was foolish enough to interfere with my complete manifestation!"

"Asta! Lightning magic: speed of light!" I appear in front of lucifero for a second before taking Asta away, back to where I was.

'Only in front of him for a split second but I can't stop shaking'

"Lucifero!" Liebe shouts, earning his attention. "Do you remember me? You're the one who killed Licitia!"

He looks at him with a blank expression. "I have no idea what you're talking about. You're trash without so much as a scrap of magic power"

I gulp before letting out a deep breath, regaining my composure and focus. "Golden Heart magic: Mana queen!"

Yellow light beginning to circle around me as my body is covered in golden armor. Lucifero gazes at me, a grin appearing on his face, removing his attention from Asta and Liebe and focusing it on me. 

"I believe I have a score to settle with you" 

He laughs. "Indeed. I assume you'll try what your predecessors have?"

"No...I'll succeed this time" 

He scoffs. "Piece of filth"

"Light magic: light swords of judgement!"

With a flick of his wrist the direction of the swords are changed, aiming back at me. Not that I'm surprised by it, this is a supreme devil we're talking about. I charge at him only for my body to fly backwards to where the others are, into one of the pieces a rubble, in front of the other devil.

"Hello there" It's head rests on it's palm. "Nice to meet you golden heart user"

 I grit my teeth, using my lightning magic to move to the air quickly before it has the chance to attack. I see Asta trying to keep Lucifero busy and I'm about to follow when Nacht stops me. 

"Your power will only work if Asta weakens it first. Let asta launch his attack first"

"Got it"

Careful Y/n

"I know"

"Do you honestly expect to defeat him?" The devil mocks

"Yes. Because we will defeat him"

It laughs, pointing at Asta who is laying on the ground trying to move. "Really? With that?"

Suddenly, the other captains appear to help, taking the chance to assist Asta and I in battle, making a smile form on my face.

'Yeah we'll win, with everyone here to help'
