Chapter 46 - A Race Against Time

The forest seemed to swallow me whole as I ran through, hoping to make it either before Zenon gets there, or just in time to save Captain Yami and William. Being that I have to save mana and for this fight, I have no choice but to run as fast as possible. Kaito flies next to me matching my speed as we run and jump through the roots of the trees, the only sound being head is the heavy pants that escape my lips

'Faster....faster....or I'll never make it in time'

Half of Golden Dawn is dead, Thank god for Yuno being alive, but that doesn't change the fact that everything is on the brink of being lost again. The devil hosts from the spade kingdom, they're all looking for something, but what?

"Hello again little princess" the same women who was chasing me the day of my solo mission appears above, causing ke to grit my teeth and furrow my eyebrows. "I'll be taking that key"

"I don't have it" I simply say. "And I don't have time for this either" I continue to run through the forest, hearing her click her tongue before throwing one of her poison daggers at me.

"I don't care, that key rightfully belongs to Miss Vanica and the other members of the dark triad. Now hand it over"

'She's not going to let me pass without a fight....my mana levels are still pretty low....'

"Poison magic: poison rose thorn attack"

"Fire magic: fire dragon king's roar"

The rose thorns she produced go up in flames as soon as my spell hits it, making her furrow her eyebrows and a smirk to appear on my face.

"I'm ending this quickly. Wind magic: towering tornado"

I jump down from the tree and continue running, only feeling that my legs are about to give out. I shake my head and try to push onward, only to trio over a root and fall flat.

"Ow...." My limbs seem to cry out as I try to push myself up, but then feel energized suddenly. Looking down where I fell, I noticed a shattered gem, specifically the gem of the necklace Miss Chiyo gave me.

'It was....a mana holding device? You can wonder about it later y/n now that you have your energy back you have to hurry!'

I push myself up and continue to sprint through the forest, finally seeing the black bulls base in the distance, Finral, Vanessa and two others standing back while Asta and Captain Yami fight another devil host.

"Vanessa! Finral!" I shout as I run up to them, watching as the second devil host grows about 10x bugger out of no where. "I made it in time"

"Y/n? What are you doing here?"

"I can't go into detail, but Captain William was taken by one of the devil hosts called Zenon and they need Captain Yami too, that's why that guy is here."

"For what?" Finral pipes in

"I'm not entirely sure" I stop, narrowing my eyes at the sight in front of me. "But this is my last chance to get him back....I can't fail"

Asta and Yami manage to take down the devil host, his body returning to his normal size, completing knocked out while Captain Yami walked up to his body. I begin to walk up to him, when Zenon appears my his side, captain William hanging still on his bones.

"Captain Yami watch out! Kaito let's go! Spirit Magic: Elemental spirit dive!" I fly up quickly after, letting out a breath. "Spirit magic: spirit storm! Finral! Vanessa! I need your help!"

"We got you y/n!" Vanessa yells as she takes out Rouge, Finral takes out his grimoire and Asta tries his best to get up. "Go Rouge!"

"You really are a pest" Zenon mutters, sending his bones in my direction. Finral opens a spatial portal just before his bones hit me, opening another behind him.

"I'm not letting you take away my family! Light creation magic: Light sword of the goddess!" The light around me changes into a sword, and I begin cutting through some of his bones, but eventually stop after he raises his devil power usage.

"You people are getting in my way" he bones towards Finral, making me quickly race too shield him, however the bones ended up piercing through my body, making me groan and blood spill out of my mouth.

"Y/n!" The two shout while Kaito separates from me, cutting through the bones with his own magic to free me. He stands tall in front of me, attempting to protect me from Zenon as I try to sit up and stop him. Zenon opens his own portal, flying through with both Captain Yami and William hanging on his bones. I place my hand on the ground, in an attempt to push myself up again, but am held down by Vanessa.

"Vanessa what are you doing!" I shouted, my heartbeat beginning to rise as his body begins to disappear, then Captain Yami's, and finally William's, the portal closing right after.

"You're in no shape to go after the two of them, let alone into enemy territory alone."

"But we have to save them! We have to go and get them back before they die!"

"We will get them back" she places both her hands on my shoulder, slightly shaking but keeping her firm hold on my body. "But we can't be reckless. Right now we lost two of our strongest forces, not to mention we still have more people in the Heart Kingdom."

'The heart kingdom....oh no'

"Lolopechka! I can't believe I forgot! My sister they're probably going after her too! I have to.."

"Noelle, Mimosa and Nero are already there, I'm sure everything will be ok."

Kaito heals up my wound quickly and helps me get up, walking over to Asta, who lays completely knocked out, Yami's sword sitting in front of him. I run my hand over the blade, reminiscing the time when we first met and he trained me for a while, the feeling of failure beginning to sink further into my stomach. Finral opens a spatial portal to the capital letting the two of us through, my wind carefully carrying Asta's body while getting him to Owen's office in the capital, while also trying to think of a battle plan.

"Y/n...." Kaito starts, not really sure what to say. "I'm sorry"

"For what?"

"I had to stop you....I just didn't want you to die"

"Kaito you were right, and while I was upset in the moment, I understand that your job is to protect me, and our job is to save everyone. We can't do that if I'm dead"

I place Asta on the bed, putting a cover over him and letting out a breath. After leaving the room I lean on the wall, closing my eyes as my heartbeat finally begins to calm down and my body begins to feel it's strain from the battle.

"We should get back to Golden Dawn to check on everyone who's still alive."

The two of us make it outside, but suddenly feel the presence of someone watching. Kaito changes into his human form, the both of us ready to fight when someone jumps off the top of the building in front of us.

"Devil's powers!" Kaito exclaims making my eyes widen

"Why are you here!"

"I have no intention of fighting you two" he starts, then takes off his hood. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Nacht Faust, the Vice Captain of the black bulls"
