Chapter 20 - What I Haven't Told You

Some mornings I wake up the the rising sun changing the blue sky into a beautiful crimson color. On these mornings, I feel a strange sense of relief and calm considering the situation we're in. I also remember my family that I miss dearly, but I'm grateful that I have a new family too. Mimosa, Klaus, Kaito, all of Golden Dawn, Asta, Noelle, Captain Yami

and...

Yuno

"Y/N!" Kaito's loud voice tears my eyes away from the window. "You've been staring at that window for 5 minutes and I was getting worried. Come on we have to start training."

"Oh yeah right" 

Captain William gave us the rest of the week off as we await the response on who passed the Royal Magic Knights exam. Granted, whether I passed or failed won't make a difference as I am already technically a royal magic knight. Yuno and Noelle obviously passed to, being that we were the team that won. Most magic knights are probably taking this time to rest, but I cannot. 

Though my magic is powerful, it also demands immense amount of control and focus, especially spirit dive. Yuno makes it look so easy, then again he's been with Bell longer and has formed a bond with her

I don't know how but he did

I throw on my cloak and tie my hair in a quick updo (or something else) before racing out of my room to the forest, not even bothering to grab breakfast. Kaito and I stop once we get farther into the forest, but just as I am about to try to open my grimoire, he stops me. 

"Wait. I have a lot to explain now that we have the time." I sit down on a rock and motion for him to continue

"I may or may not have sort have been lying to you...no wait not lying, more like bending the truth a little"

I cock my head in confusion and furrow my eyebrows. "What do you mean"

He lets out a sigh, doing a small flip and a cloud of smoke covered him. I wait patiently for the smoke to clear and when it does, a taller male is revealed. 

"Kaito? Is that you?"

"Yeah. This is part of my powers. I can use the same as you but I can also change into a human. While I'm in this form, whatever magic you're using, I'll be using. Say you chose water, I'd use my water magic. "

"Was that all?" I shake my head and smile. "I thought it was something more and you had me worried for a second."

He bites his lip. "There's more..." He stops, letting out a sigh. "What I've been teaching you, it's not spirit dive, well it is but it's not at the same time. The 'spirit dive' we've been doing is actually diving into all your elements at once, but you can also go into spirit dive for specific elements and it'll use less mana. Right now, based on how much you've practiced your elements, you can use about 80% of your power in light spirit dive and dark spirit dive. In other elements about half that so 40-45% at best. Full spirit dive, less than 10%. While you're in spirit dive too, whatever magic you're using, I'll be using if I'm in my human form. Say you chose water, I'd use my water magic. I've been teaching you full spirit dive because I wanted you to get a feel for the amount of mana being used that way you don't feel as tired when you're only doing one element." 

"I see..." Kaito sighs and plops down on the dirt in front of me. "That's a lot of information to take in at once. 

He pulls his legs into his chest. "There's one more thing..."

"More?"

"Sometime in the future you're going to learn a completely different spell that doesn't actually require you to use mana."

"Wait what? Isn't that the point of spells?"

"The spell of sorts is called Mana Queen. The Golden Heart Grimoire is even more powerful than any other that any wizard has ever seen. It's why it's so rare, and why people go through such lengths to get it. Mana Queen requires an immense amount of concentration, patience, and caution. I don't know much about how to awaken it, but it's a very dangerous spell."

"Why?" I ask without even thinking. I see his gaze shift from me to the ground beside him.

"That spell killed Lady Evangeline, the previous holder before you" 

I feel my blood run cold. That spell is so dangerous that it's killed the user? I feel myself let out a shaky breath and Kaito stands up, placing a hand on my shoulder. 

"I'm not going to let that happen to you. I don't want to watch another person die in front of me"

"Kaito..."

He grins. "Anyways, we better start training! You have to get a better handle on your power."

"Maybe I should talk to Captain William. His world tree magic is similar to Earth right? Maybe I can ask him to train me. Then maybe someone from the Vermillion family? They use fire so it could work. Noelle for water would be my best bet. And for wind..."

Kaito smirks. "You're going to have to ask your B-O-Y-F-R-I-E-N-D." 

I glare at him as he lets out a hearty laugh. He's right though, You has a really good handle on his wind magic and would be a huge help to me. I just wonder how long I can put up with Bell, and how long he can put up with me. I shudder, thinking about how badly I'll probably get my ass kicked in a wind magic match against him. 

"In any case, we can deal with that another day. Right now, we should work on our partnership and synergy in battle" 

I throw my cloak to the side and slide my grimoire out of it's bag. "Let's get started then"

~Evening~

I lay my head on the tree behind me as I wait in the shade for some of my mana to recover. We worked in fragments of an hour and so far everything seems to be going well. My eyes start to close as I feel a breeze through the air. Kaito sits on my shoulder, probably taking a nap. 

"Hey Yuno"

"How'd you know I was here?"

I let out a small chuckle. "The wind got a little too strong for a small breeze"

He takes a seat next to me and I lean my head on his shoulder. "Did you train today?"

I hum. "Kaito told me a lot more about my powers and just exactly what my role is. Apparently I can go into spirit dive for different elements, but the one I've been going into is all of them at once. He can also take on a human form and use the same magic as me without a grimoire so we were working on our partnership"

"Interesting"

"What about you? Did you also train today?"

"No, I went to visit everyone in Hage for a little. I figured you were going to train and that's what I told them, but they were all sad you weren't there"

I smile. "Wow it's almost as if they like me more than you"

"Don't get cocky now"

I let out a small laugh and kiss his cheek. "That reminds me, you think you can help me with training my wind magic? Kaito says that I can really only use less than 10% of my power and to use spirit dive I kind of need more than that" 

"Alright, I'm not going easy on you just because you're my girlfriend"

"I wouldn't want you to. I'd take that as an insult"

"Feisty aren't we?"

"You started it" I pout, crossing my arms. He cracks a small smile and pats my head. 

"Come on, let's see what you got"

A smirk forms on my lips as I stand up and walk to the center of the dirt patch "Kaito time to get up" Yuno stands also, taking off his cloak and taking out his grimoire

"You're gonna wanna be awake for this one.
