The weather was snowy and it was freezing. This didn't make Hooch cancel the match though. Riley was nervous for this match, she hopped on her broom and flew onto the field along with the rest of the team. James was showing off his tricks, as the Ravenclaws flew onto the field as well.
"Today, Gryffindors and the unbeatable, amazing, perfect — sorry professor — I mean, Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw!" Sadie Oswald announced as McGonagall warned her. "And the match starts... NOW! Madam Hooch throws the quaffle in the middle and Potter grabs it quickly!"
James scored in a few seconds as the Gryffindors cheered. Sadie updated the scoreboard. Jade grabbed the quaffle right after that and scored once more.
"Gryffindor chaser Miller and Potter score! Gryffindor twenty, Ravenclaw zero!"
Riley, on the other hand, got ahold of her bat and hit the bludger away from Jade. She flew right into the Ravenclaw chasers and hit the bludgers in the way they were going.
"Spade hits the bludger in Casper's way! You wouldn't have done that if your sister was playing— sorry professor—" Sadie said. She was biased towards Ravenclaw.
"Wilson scores as Dalton misses the quaffle! Finally that filthy—" Sadie announced, "Ravenclaw now ten!"
After a long time, the Ravenclaw seeker, Nicole Norman, looked puzzled for a minute. She looked at the snowy weather as she squinted her eyes. She flew right into the Gryffindor chasers, she followed the snitch carefully.
"Norman spots the snitch! Davis follows her!" Sadie announced with excitement. "You git, Davis! You're only tagging along because you're not as talented as Norman — I'M COMMENTATING PROFESSOR!"
James scored once more and the points were now: Gryffindor ninety, Ravenclaw two hundred and fifty. The snitch being caught meant that the game had ended but if Davis caught the snitch, Gryffindor would lose directly. The snitch was on eh indeed and fifty points, even if he got the snitch, they would lose by ten points.
Riley noticed how it was a dead-end. But Davis didn't seem to notice the situation.
"DAVIS! DON'T CATCH IT!" Dalton shouted loudly. "WE WILL LOSE! DISTRACT NORMAN!"
The other Gryffindor beater hit the bludger in their way but missed as he got hit by a bludger instead. The Ravenclaw keeper didn't let the Gryffindors score and they couldn't get more points. Nicole was an inch close to the snitch and the freezing weather kept blowing snow in their way. Davis was ignoring the team's warnings and he was still going for the snitch instead of distracting Nicole.
Riley thought of something, something rather idiotic, but she didn't have another chance she could choose from. She also didn't have time to waste.
She held onto her bat and broom and went for the bludger. She flung her bat and hit the bludger towards the two seekers flying upwards into the freezing snow.
The bludger went fastly towards Davis and Norman. The students, teachers, and even players watched it as it hit the two seekers. They were thrown off to one side and the golden snitch kept going in a different direction, vanishing from sight, all over again.
"The bludger hits the seekers! They are distracted, Spade not only hit Norman but her team's seeker too!"
As the players were distracted, James, Jade, and Elliana (the third chaser) scored. Riley kept on hitting the bludgers onto other players and Nicole was unmotivated since she was hurt. Davis wasn't any different, but the snitch was close to him, so he caught it.
"Gryffindor wins... again— I mean, congratulations... The score is two hundred and fifty, Ravenclaw — three hundred, Gryffindor!"
They all went to the hospital wing because Davis needed to. Madam Pomfrey gave him Pain Potions and he looked angry.
"Are you out of your mind, Spade?! Are you completely insane?! Why did you hit me, I was about to catch the snitch, you idiot!" Davis spat.
"I was gonna ask you the same! Are you an idiot? If you had caught the snitch then, we would have lost! Aren't you a sixth year? I thought you could add numbers up in your head!" Riley spat back.
"She's right, if you caught the snitch the first time, we would have lost," Dalton said with a stern voice.
"What? Nonsense!"
"Do you even know the rules?" James asked with an annoyed laugh.
"Of course I do! Do you think I'm don't?!"
"Well— kinda—" Riley said under her breath. "Look, if you caught the snitch, we would have gained one hundred and fifty points, you know that, right?"
"But catching the snitch also means the game is done," Jade said loudly.
"...And?"
"You still don't get it?!" Elliana blurted out.
"The game would be done, but the score would have been like this: Ravenclaw two hundred and fifty, Gryffindor two hundred and forty! We would have lost by ten points!" Riley said angrily. "We had to distract Norman, well — and you, from getting the snitch!"
"Oh... But — you could've—"
"Could've what? Stood there like an idiot?" Dalton said.
"Then you should've scored two more points!" Davis said pointing at the chasers. "You should've kept the quaffles out of our hoop!" he pointed at Dalton. "Things happen at quidditch, losing is a part of the game, even though we don't like it!"
"Then you try to avoid losing if you're such a good player!" James said.
"Come on, let's go, I don't want to deal with idiot teammates, I would rather face a genius enemy..." Riley said as she tapped James on the shoulder. The two left the hospital wing, Sirius, Remus, and Peter were waiting for them outside.
"That game was amazing! You should've seen Norman's face when they lost!" Sirius said.
"Davis was stupid," Remus said.
"Even Sadie Oswald was biased," Peter said. They walked to the common room as they talked loudly, their happy voices echoed through the walls of the castle.
