28th of September, 1978
Riley went to Remus and Sirius' apartment after a long while of not going out of the house. It was raining, the smell of the fresh air and the light wind made it slightly better.
She knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" asked Sirius from behind the door.
"Riley—"
The door flung open, Riley was startled by how he opened it without any questions or more safety precautions. Sirius was standing there with his mouth open.
"You came here and actually got out of your house?" he asked excitedly.
"It was only like two weeks..." said Riley. "And you opened the door way too quickly, it is danger—"
"Welcome!" said Sirius and hugged Riley. "Good to see you again."
"You too, Pads. Let me go now."
Sirius let go of Riley and she looked around for Remus.
"Where's Moony?"
"Er — well — order business."
"Werewolves?"
Sirius' eyes widened. "How did you know?!"
"Well, he isn't a vampire, is he? You are also a bad liar, plus, Moody gave it away." Riley smiled cheekily. "And Moony is probably hiding because he doesn't wanna lie?"
"No wonder why you're a fox," mumbled Sirius. "Moony!" He called. No one answered. "Moony, she already knows!"
A door was opened as an angry-looking Remus came out of the room. He had a big scar on his nose and another big one on his cheek. "You told her?! How am I supposed to trust — she found out before you could tell her anything, right?" he then said in realization. "Hey, Crim."
"Hi, liar."
"Look, I just didn't wanna tell anyone anything because Moody wanted me to keep it as a secret. Also, that pack of Greyback is harsh, I didn't want anybody to worry—"
"I was worried the whole fucking time!" exclaimed Sirius.
"We've been dating for years, Pads, of course, I told you!" said Remus. He then held his forehead, closed his eyes shut with his two hands. "My head hurts, nobody shout."
"You were shouting a second ago—"
"Don't shout!"
Riley raised an eyebrow. "How have you two not killed each other yet?"
"It really is shocking—" said Sirius but was interrupted by Remus.
"Don't shout!"
"I'm talking in the same volume as Riley—"
"Keep it down!" said Remus. "Keep — it — down!"
"Merlin," said Sirius.
"I heard you!"
"You were supposed to hear me!"
"Stop it before I cut both your fucking heads off, will you?" said Riley suddenly. "Moony, you went to spy on Greyback?"
"No, and also, I never saw Greyback, only his troupe. Moody and Dumbledore wanted me to convince them to join the order. But I only went there for a day and they hurt me enough in one night."
"Is that why you told us you wanted to spend the full moon alone?"
"Yeah, why would I wanna spend it alone? That's dumb."
"Anybody want chocola—" said Sirius from the kitchen. Riley hadn't realized Sirius going there, but Remus had gone there faster than the newest broomstick to be ever invented.
"How were they? What did they say?" asked Riley.
"Absolute maniacs. And not even during the full moon, but every single minute. There was one named Chuck, he tried to claw me during the day. The worst is that they didn't let me see Greyback. They said that he needed to trust me."
Riley thought of Voldemort. He had said the same when she asked to join the meetings.
"Well — what did you do, then?"
"Not much, Moody told me it was all right, and that I would go there for longer sometime in January. That's when they get new members."
"Longer?"
"A week, maybe longer. Whatever is enough to talk to Greyback."
Riley gulped, knowing the mission was not safe at all. What if something happened to Remus? But on the other hand, this mission was so similar to the one she was dealing with, and she couldn't tell him to not go, knowing she couldn't avoid going and fake being a death eater either.
"I—Is it safe?" she asked.
"No," said Remus and smiled wryly. "But it might help." He then walked over to the counter and grabbed a pack of cigarettes. He lit it up without his wand.
"You smoke?!" Riley asked. "I didn't know you smoked!"
"You didn't?" asked Sirius and he lit up a cigarette himself. "Poor you."
"And in the house? How does it not reek?!"
Remus let the smoke float carelessly. "I think you sometimes forget we can do magic."
"But Prongs did complain about the dorm reeking," said Sirius. "He doesn't smoke, thinks it's disgusting. Lily's a bad influence on him."
"He wasn't dating Lily in our fifth year," said Remus.
"You have been smoking since our fifth year?! Prongs has a point..." said Riley in shock. "Not staying in the same dorm definitely was a good influence on me."
"Jesus Christ," said Remus. "Wizards don't get muggle diseases, it can't affect our lungs."
"Smoking is still bad," said Riley.
"Since when did you become such goody-goody? You sound like Wormy, he also told us to stop smoking," Sirius said.
"He did start smoking though," said Remus.
"True."
"You two are honestly unbearable," Riley said and rolled her eyes.
