"Well, you could name a place and time
There's nowhere that I wouldn't go
As long as it's just you and I
It feels like I'm going home."
— The Aces

Stepping onto the turf under the heat of the sun and the sounds of the crowd instantly settled Cody's mind. She wasn't nervous about playing, she knew her own talent and limits. She was nervous about playing against Sweden, because with the Sweden National Team came Lena.

Of course her heart wasn't fluttering for the blonde the way it once did. When she set her eyes on the Chelsea player, Cody assumed she would feel the familiar stab in her chest that came with being betrayed and cheated on, but the sensation never came. The two shared a smile and a small nod as they shook hands.

No. Cody was nervous for another reason, ironically that reason also had blonde hair, but this blonde wasn't smiling at Lena, she was glaring at her.

"Will you stop that?" Cody groaned, pulling her best friend away from the Swedish team and towards their teammates.

"What?" Jack frowned.

"The fact you don't know what I mean worries me." Cody chuckled. "Stop glaring at her like you're going to break her legs."

"Why are you defending her?" Jack stopped her best friend just short of prying ears - mainly Alex's.

"I–I don't know." Cody shrugged. "I guess I'm not angry anymore, and you shouldn't be either, she was your teammate and friend before it all happened."

"You always come first, Maxi." Jack mumbled, but Cody still caught it.

"You come first for me too, Jack."

"We are pretty cute friends, huh?" The blonde laughed, wrapping an arm around the younger Morgan.

"God. I don't like what Christen has done to your ego." Cody shrugged her friend's arm from her shoulder.

Jack just grinned like the Cheshire Cat and wiggled her eyebrows.

"Don't say it."

"Don't say what?" Jack grinned.

"Whatever sex joke you're about to crack." Cody smiled, nudging her best friend with shoulder as they reach their teammates.

"You know I'm not the only one you should talk to about not glaring at a certain Swedish player."

"What?" Cody frowned, instinctively looking towards her mother but Alex wasn't looking at any member of the Swedish team, she was busy talking with Press.

Jack gently grabbed her friend's chin and directed her head to the left. Cody's hand raising in the air to shield her eyes from the sun's rays, and her own sight lands on Mewis One and Two, the shorter of the two glaring at an unsuspecting Lena.

"For fucks sake." Cody grumbled.

"Everything okay?" Alex asked as the two arrived for the huddle. Cody could feel Kristie watching her intently, looking for any sign of discomfort. She wouldn't find any.

"I'm good. Trying to keep track of all my guard dogs." Cody smiled, finally making eye contact with Kristie who immediately ducked her head down to avoid the smirk on the younger Morgan's face.

The game was evenly matched for most of the ninety, until the US scored in the tail end of the seventy-seventh minute. Cody was already off the field, being subbed out for her Portland Teammate, Horan, who set up Alex for the goal.
