"Well?" Ellie breaks the silence between herself, Tobin and I as we wait for our flight to Orlando. Zeus already on the plane.

"What?"

"Are you going to tell us how your little date with Kristie went?" She narrows her eyes slightly, annoyed as I play dumb. "Tobin wants to know, too."

I glance at my guardian to find that she's already staring at me. She raises a single eyebrow, daring me not to answer. In that one second she reminds me of my mother.

"You know it's not your business, right?" I ask both of them as they continue to stare me down.

"Cody." Ellie gains my attention. "Do I have to call Jack?"

"Okay, fine! I'll tell you."

One week ago.

"I'll tell your mom if you're not back by 11, I mean it. We have a flight to catch and I don't trust Kristie with you-"

"Okay." I cut Tobin off as we hear a knock on the hotel door. Tobin gets to the door before me, opening it harshly. Kristie's eyes widen momentarily, but she tries to control her reaction to Tobin.

"Kristie." Tobin 'greets' her.

"Tobin."

"I know I'm not her mother, or Jack for that matter, but if you hurt her I will come and find you." Kristie nods her head perpetually before she gulps.

"Okay, down girl." I put my hand on Tobin's shoulder, softly guiding her away from the door, away from Kristie. "I'll be back by curfew."

"You better be." Tobin states, looking at Kristie.

"Aye ma'am!" I playfully salute the veteran, before taking Kristie's hand when she hesitantly offers it. I close the door and she instantly relaxes now that she's not under the scrutiny of Tobin's stare.

"Where are you taking me?" I ask as we walk down the quiet streets of Houston, my hand still locked in Kristie's.

"For dinner." She replies vaguely. I don't fail to spot the small smirk on her lips. "I hope you like tacos."

"I love 'em!" I exclaim as I take the lead and drag her along the street despite not knowing where I'm going. I stop when Kristie chuckles, letting her take the lead once again.

We turn down a quiet street. It's small but the smell of food immediately hits my senses and my mouth begins to water as my stomach rumbles.

"Hungry?" Kristie smirks, clearly already knowing the answer. She chuckles when I let go of her hand to playfully push her away.
