"Man!" Kristie hollers as I'm chased along the flank, Krieger hot on my heels as I deliver a cross into the box. Ashlyn manages to get to it before Rachel and the referee calls the game.

We show sportsmanship, shake hands with the Pride players, some hugging me, before shaking hands with the referee, even if she made some bullshit calls this afternoon.

We trudge inside the locker room, and I peel the Dash jersey from my sweat soaked body before sitting in front of my temporary locker.

"You okay?" Mewis asks, as Rachel walks by to her own locker.

"Yep."

It's been about a week since Rachel began acting weird, and I wish I could say that it didn't worry me. She's been staying behind during training to speak to management, but whenever anyone asks her about it she just says it's nothing.

"Want me to talk to her?" Kristie asks, and I notice that she caught me staring at Rachel.

"Haven't you already?"

"...yeah. Listen, whatever it is, she'll tell you."

________

It was only two days ago that Cody's in depth interview was released and it was met with a wave of support for Jack's best friend. Even ex-Chelsea teammates of Carter's were reaching out. Everyone was overwhelmed and astounded by the maturity of the young woman who had taken so many hits in life. But nobody was as proud as Jack.

Okay, maybe Alex.

But then, definitely Jack.

The interview had her reminiscing over the past. How far Cody had come, herself too. The hurdles they have each had to face. Their failed experiment tentively dubbed a "relationship" and hits to their friendship when Jack had moved to England without telling Cody.

It seemed like decades ago, and Jack had hoped that when she settled in Houston with Rachel that everything would run smoothly. However, lately with her girlfriend hiding something, Jack can't help but have doubts and so she turned to the only one she could think of at that time.

Not Cody, who was focused on healing, Jack didn't want to interrupt her progress, she cared for her best friend too much to be a burden.

Not Kelley. The hyperactive Squirrel woman would undoubtedly jump on a plane and after getting the story from Jack, take up the issues with Rachel. A confrontation was something she was trying to avoid until she was in a clear mindset.

She considered Hope, but when it occured to her that they two hadn't spoken in a while, she would need to catch her up on all the happenings of her life. She was guilty of allowing their relationship to stall. She had always loved that Hope was laid back, the complete opposite of Kelley who was always wanting the facts and the deets. Hope was the parent that allowed Jack to live, and if she was needed, then she would help.

There really was only one person that Jack felt she could trust while venting her feelings and emotions about her girlfriend being secretive. Although the topic of feelings was almost taboo with the woman on Jack's mind as there were sparks before she packed up and left for Houston.

So, did she really have anyone to talk to?

The season was drawing to a close, and Jack couldn't wait. She wanted a break from training, working out, flying from state to state, at least momentaril, before work started again in order to make the Olympic roster. Sufficed to say that when she got back to the home she shared with Rachel, Jack quickly embraced the welcoming comfort of their bed.

The bliss didn't last long, as Rachel entered the room and went straight to the closet, getting a suitcase and beginning to pack.

"Going somewhere?" Jack asked as she got up from the bed.

"Uh, yeah, I've got a meeting with Vera," Rachel replies, only meeting Jack's eye for a second before returning to pack.

"You need a suitcase for that?"

Rachel's movements falter as the tension in the room begins to rise and the English woman releases a sigh before facing the American, "I can't do this right now, Jack."

"You say that a lot these days. Have you even noticed that we've barely spoken in the last week?" Jack crosses her arms over her chest as she refuses to back down.

"I know that, just get off my back." Rachel unceremoniously shoves her way out the room and Jack, now riled up, follows.

"Are you always going to run instead of talking about our issues?" Carter asks as Rachel reaches the front door.

"You're the one making issues out of nothing, Jack. I can't talk about this right now."

With that, Rachel leaves before Jack can utter a single word. The American stares at the front door for what feels like hours, but is in fact only a few minutes. She focuses on trying to control her breathing before she finally breaks and decides to call the person she had been trying to avoid.

Her fingers nimbly fly across the screen of her iPhone as she scrolls her contacts before landing on her name. Doubts swim in her mind, should she really call?

"Fuck it," Jack mutters to herself, hitting the call button and putting the phone to her ear.
