"What if I told you I'm not all right?
I mean I don't feel dead but I'm not alive."
Joyner Lucas

"I had a great time...again." I chuckle lightly as Rachel smiles at me. It's our fifth date since I moved to Houston. I'd be lying if I said it went down well with everyone.

Cody was surprisingly okay with it, but I'm sure that had to do with her continuing feelings towards a certain Mewis. Kelley was more than suspicious, she even told Hope who I hadn't heard from in months. It sounds awful but that's just how our relationship works, I'm relieved that I was adopted by the one adult in my life that seems happy to let me live and not question every single decision I make.

The most surprising reaction was from Christen. She lashed out a little, before apologizing and ignoring me completely. Maybe I'm over-reacting because there's a lot of distance between us now, but maybe I'm not.

"I had a good time, too." She smiles as we reach my new apartment here in Texas, fully equipped with an A/C that I use often. "I'll see you at training?" Rachel asks as we stand at my front door.

"Of course." I smile as she leans in. The dynamics have already been set in our short relationship with Rachel comfortable to take the first step. She leans in and captures my lips in a soft strawberry flavored kiss, one that I don't want to end.

The kiss heats up at a fast rate until Rachel's phone pings with a text. A single look enough to convince her to ignore it, which she does, until my phone starts to ring.

"Ugh. Of course." I mumble as I rest my forehead against hers.

I say goodnight to the girl that seems to be taking over my mind. I kick my shoes off, tie my hair up and finally call back the person who ruined my moment.

"Finally!" Cody yells down the receiver.

"My name is Jack, you should know that by now."

"Screw you-"

"I have my eyes on someone else." I sass back, but it soon backfires.

"Christen?" Cody jokes, fully aware of my now troubled friendship with the black haired beauty.

"Cheap shot."

"Has she answered you yet?"

"Not yet." I sigh out as I sit my phone on my bed, turning the speakerphone on as I unzip my dress and let it drop to the floor. "I'm not letting it ruin my night though."

"How was your date?"

"It was great, thanks for ruining it."

"Gross, I can hear you smiling." Cody mimicks the sound of puking before laughing. "I'll always be here to ruin your dates. I need deets, you know this. Besides...Kristie didn't know anything so who else would I ask?"

"You and Mewis seem to be talking a lot more..." I trail off, letting her get the hint as I start to wipe my makeup off.

"We have, but I'm not in the mindset for a relationship. I can't even trust my own mother!"

"I take it things are still rough with Alex?"

| Cody |

"Yeah." I sigh out as I hear Jack walking into another room before hearing the shower running. "I'll let you go."

"Cody, wait-"

I don't. I hang up as I slip my shoes on before heading out the front door with Zeus who barks happily as we walk down the quiet streets.
