For Her.
"They slipped briskly,
into an intimacy
From which they
Never recovered."

"Where is she?" I ask after Sam opens the door. She resembles a deer caught in headlights as her eyes scan over the group of us standing at her door.
After hearing that Kristie plans to take my daughter out for dinner, which sounds suspiciously like a date, I decided to set some ground rules in order to protect Cody from getting hurt once again, and because my friends care for her too, Ash, Tobin, Allie, Ali, Kelley and Jack all decided to tag along.
"Um...huh?" Sam mutters, still completely confused.
"Your sister, bruh. Where she at?" Jack asks, receiving several side glances.
"What she said." Tobin backs her up, clearly choking back her laughter.
"Oh, she's in the shower-"
Sam gets cut off by Kristie exiting the bathroom wearing shorts and a sports bra, and when she sets her sights on the mass of humans by her door, she adopts the same look as Sam.
"Wow, you're definitely sisters." Jack mumbles, ignoring the nudge from Kelley's elbow.
"We need to talk." I tell her, and watch as she throws on a hoodie before Sam excuses herself from the room, leaving Kristie alone with us.
"If you hurt my best friend again, I will cut you-"
"Jack!" Kelley slaps her daughter upside the head. "That's not why we're here."
"It's not?" Jack furrows her brow. "Then why am I here?"
"Ignore her." I start, gaining Kristie's attention as Tobin, Allie and Ali sit on the bed, the rest remain standing. "But we are here to talk about Cody."
"I figured-"
"Don't interrupt!" Jack interrupts.
"Jack, shut up." Kelley mumbles, holding her hand over said girl's mouth.
"Look, my daughter means the world to m.e" I begin, and the room sits in silence. "And I'll be damned if I let another girl break her heart, especially one that already has." I hold my hand in the air to silence Kristie when she opens her mouth to speak. "If I'm being honest, I wouldn't have given my blessing to this little...date you have tomorrow night if it wasn't for how you acted during the game with Sweden. I seen the way you looked at Cody, the way you acted whenever she was kicked to the ground, you wanted to kill someone and to me that screams that you care about her."
"I do care about her-"
"I'm not finished, because you said that before, and you still hurt her. Now, I talk with Syd all the time and she told me that you've been working on yourself, focusing more on your career, maturing in general. For your sake, I hope that you have because my daughter will always come first." I stand to leave, the others seated following my actions, and Kelley opens the door. "Always."
