"They say love is blind,
We see each other fine."

It was Cody's last weekend in Texas, and before she left she was adamant on watching her best friend suit up for Houston. The season was coming to a close and, unfortunately for the Dash, they weren't in the playoffs.
It was a chance to catch up with Kelley and Christen before flying home to Tobin in Portland. She would be lying if she said that she wasn't disappointed in Jack and Christen's chemistry not going anywhere.
Still though, as long as Jack was happy so was Cody.——
In the tunnel waiting for the Royals to line up, Jack was continuing to badger Kristie about her 'it's-not-a-date' date with Cody.
"Nothing happened, Carter." Kristie replied curtly, she was getting annoyed with the interrogations. "What about you and Rachel?"
Jack blinked, taken aback, "What about us?"
"You followed us. You should know nothing happened."
Jack abruptly turned around in hopes of not making eye contact with a certain Royal, and completely confusing Kristie in the process.
Unknown to Jack, Press already spotted her.——
Later that night, with the Dash beating the Royals by a single goal, Jack picked up Cody outside her hotel and, unlike her best friend, Jack wasn't excited about the dinner invite.
"What's wrong?"
Jack glances at Cody in the passenger seat, "Nothing."
"You're still an awful liar," the brunette chuckles. "Is it Christen?"
Jack doesn't respond, and instead focuses on the road.
"What happened between you two?" Cody continues, hoping for answers.
Jack sighs, "Nothing happened...that's the problem." She mumbles towards the end, assuming that Cody couldn't hear, but she was wrong.
"It's just...I'm usually the nervous one. It's weird seeing you like this."
"Like what? Nervous?" Jack smiles, though it doesn't react her eyes as she glances at Cody again.
"Yeah, and unsure of yourself. Where is my overconfident, pain in the ass best friend?"
The question is left unanswered as Jack pulls up outside the restaurant. Kelley and Christen both visible as Jack and Cody sit in the car.
"You really want to know?" Jack asks, taking off her seatbelt and turning to face her best friend.
"I do."
"Nothing happened between us. No feelings were admitted." Jack begins. "I was confused, I wasn't on good terms with Kelley, I was avoiding Hope and Christen...she was there for me. She gave me a place to stay, a shoulder to lean on. Eventually I caught feelings and I was certain that it was a one-way street, you know?" Jack asks, feeling relieved when Cody nods. "So I did what I felt would be best - I left."
"Then Rachel walked into your life?" Cody asks.
"Yeah."
"Did you speak with Press? Like, at all since you moved?"
"No, she called a few times, but I guess she got the hint when she started seeing me and Rach on each other's socials."
"That seems kinda...rude," Cody admits.
The two best friends were interrupted by a knock on Cody's window, startling the two younger women. Kelley stood outside, grinning, unaware of the serious atmosphere within the car. O'Hara's grin only widened when the two youngsters stepped out the car, each greeting the shorter woman with hugs.
"What took you so long? We were watching you both from inside," Kelley nods her head towards Christen who was looking at her phone, "But I can't read lips so it got boring pretty quickly."
"How have you been, ma?" Jack asked, wrapping an arm around Kelley's shoulder. Cody walked behind the two, smiling at their interaction.
"I've been good. Missing you, though," Kelley admitted, snaking an arm around Jack's waist. "I'm not the only one who missed you."
"Hi Jack, Cody," Christen stood from the table. She hugged the young Morgan before turning the Jack. Both women hesitated, which confused Kelley, before they settled on a brief hug. Jack took a seat next to Cody and across from Kelley, who sat next to Press.
"It feels like I haven't seen you in years," Kelley begins, noticing Cody grinning, "Look how much you've grown! I remember when you were just a stupid little kid."
"Kelley. I was sixteen when I met you," Jack groaned.
"To be fair, you we're stupid then, too." Cody laughed, winking at Kelley when Jack slaps her arm.
"How is the injury healing, Cody?" Christen asks as the laughter dies down.
Cody notices the side glance Christen sends to Jack but decides to ignore it, "It's going well. Doctors and my trainers both think I'll be able to play again, if I can keep my progress steady. It's hard, though."
"We know, trust us," Kelley sends the young Morgan a sad smile. "Just keep doing what you're doing and before you know it, you'll be back on the field and better than ever!"
"How much has she had to drink?" Jack asks Christen, taking the older woman by surprise - she had assumed that Jack would ignore her all night.
"Excuse me," Kelley cuts in, "I have had nothing to drink. Yet."
"I don't think you need anything to drink, mom. You're crazy enough."
Kelley grinned, and something about it made Jack's stomach turn, "Wanna talk crazy?" Kelley starts. "Let's talk about the tension between you and Christen."
"Oh, damn." Cody mumbles before she laughs, watching Jack's face pale.
"There's no tension," Carter weakly defends, focusing to hard on Kelley that she misses the hurt on Christen's face.
But Cody doesn't.
"Jack, leave it," Morgan nudges her friend.
"I mean it. There's nothing to talk about, no tension - nothing."
"I'll be right back, order me a drink?" Christen asks Kelley who nods and wathes as Press evacuates to the restroom.
Kelley studies Jack's face as the younger girl watches Christen walk away, "Okay, I'll just ask. Did you two have sex?"
