"I'm holding on to pieces of us
That I just can't let go"

"ESPN : WHERE IS CODY MORGAN?
Arsenal, and the young American, announced her immediate departure from London to pastures new. However, nobody knows where that will be, leaving us to wonder - Where Is Cody Morgan?""Fucking tell me about it." I groan, throwing my phone on my bed.
I haven't heard from Cody, only a quickfire text to basically let me know that she's still alive.| Cody |
"Thanks for picking me up." I grin at the slightly taller blonde, who wraps her arms around me.
"Anything for you." Kristie smiles, taking my bag and putting it in the trunk before opening the door for me. "After you."
"You're cute." I get in the passenger seat, watching as Kristie runs around the car and hops in the seat next to me.
"So, coffee?"
"Please!"
We catch up as we drive back to her apartment, which included her asking where I'm moving, and my constant avoidance of the subject. We eventually get to her place, I leave my bag in the trunk since I'll be getting another flight in a few hours, and I throw myself on her couch, instantly making myself at home.
I feel her eyes rake my body but I ignore it, until she lifts my feet so she can sit beside me.
"Are you going to tell me?"
"I told you already, I'm not telling you where I'm moving-"
"No, Cody. Not that." She pauses, obviously expecting me to know what she means. When she's met with my confused face, she continues. "I mean, why did you come here if she's only planning on calling you?"
I immediately shift, sitting upright, ignoring the hurt expression on her face when I remove my feet from her lap. My mind races with possible excuses, none of them making as much sense as the truth.
"I want honesty, Cody." Well, fuck.
"I haven't told anyone else that Jo called me months ago, only you-"
"Why not?"
"I don't know." I sigh out, beginning to feel slightly perplexed. "Other people ask too many questions, you don't. You just let me talk, and feel what I feel. Other people try and change how I feel about her."
"Is that why you're here?"
"Yes. No. Both? I just feel...comfortable with you here when she calls. I feel safer. Like I'm home." I mumble at the end.
Before she can ask me to repeat myself, my phone starts to ring, something that spreads relief and dread through me at the same time.
"Go ahead, answer it. I'm right here." Kristie says as she moves closer to me, our legs touching and her hand rubbing soothing circles on my back. The small gesture sends confidence through me and I answer the call, putting my phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Cody." Jo speaks up, sounding a lot happier than when we spoke before. "How are you? Heard about your big transfer, good for you."
"I'm doing well, you?" I ask, feeling uncomfortable already, and glance at Kristie who gives me a small smile.
"I'm great. I'm getting out."
