"Told me you would die for me,
All you ever do is lie to me."
-NF.[ Jack ]
Trying to enjoy my quiet time watching Netflix, a nagging feeling in the back of my mind was determined to ruin it. Where was Cody, and most importantly - where is my damn coffee? Despite my mind beginning to wonder, the door opening suddenly still caught me offguard.
Yelping, and scrambling to my feet in a manner that nobody would describe as 'elegant', I stumble off the bed and onto the floor before jumping to my feet and holding an empty bottle in my hand ready to strike, "Beware intruder - I have a deadly weapon and I know how to use it!"
I hear a laugh before I see the unknown person. "You wouldn't hurt a fly." I hear the distinctive voice of Alex as she follows Kelley into the room, her smile drops slightly when she sees that Cody isn't with me. "Where's Cody?"
"She went to get me coffee, but I think she got lost."
"How long has she been gone?" Kelley asks, throwing herself on my bed and ignoring the playful glare I send her.
"Over an hour." I inform the 'adults' and watch as both the women share a look. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that they were concerned and bordering on panic, just as the door opens again.
"There you are!" I yell, standing to leave Kelley on my bed. I stride to Cody and take my coffee from the holder. "I've been waiting for you!" I exaggerate and kiss the ice cold cup.
"What about me?" Cody asks, a playful glint in her eye.
"Oh. I thought you died." I shrug.
"Where were you?" Alex asks, embracing her daughter as I take a gulp from my coffee.
"Getting coffee..." Cody trails off as if it's obvious as she stands with her own Starbucks coffee.
"For over an hour?"
I watch alongside Kelley and Alex as Cody seems to hesitate. She bites her lip, a small frown on her features before she exhales, "I met someone."
"Who?!" I yell, accidently, taken surprise by the news.
"Just...someone." Cody brushes me off, not answering Alex or Kelley either.
The two spend the next hour seemingly pestering Cody, who doesn't cave, until they're called for training. "Finally. I thought they'd never leave." Cody mumbles before grabbing clean clothes from her suitcase and heading for a shower.
"So, is it a date?" I ask for clarification before my best friend shuts the door, but I don't get any. "Okay then."

"Between Texas and Cali, I think I'm finally getting the hang of this heat." I joke as I sit in the booth of a small diner with Rachel and Kristie. Mewis, here supporting her tree of a sister, sits across from Rachel and I as we catch up after two whole days apart.
"I still haven't adapted." Rachel yawns as she leans her head on my shoulder. "So. Where's Cody?"
A year or two ago that question, from Rachel, would have me dreading the worst. That she would try and get back with Kristie even if it was my best friend who got hurt in the end. Now though, it's different. Boundaries were put in place, mostly by Mewis, but Rachel agreed to being 'just friends'.
A year or two ago I may have doubted that - until I got to know the English girl.
"She uh..." I trail off, realizing that while I'm in company with Daly, who has no any interest in Kristie, we're still with the Mewis girl who most definitely has an interest in my best friend.
