"A promise made is a debt unpaid."
— Robert W. Service.Portland decided to take their fan's excitement and run with it, and held an open training session for Alex's first day back with the team. The limited number were excited to see the legend back in red, but it wasn't just Alex. The fans were excited to see the mother and daughter duo link-up. Due to Cody's injuries last season the two hadn't even been seen on the US roster together in a long time, so to have the Morgan's on the same team was raising the excitement for everyone.
The small crowd cheered when Alex and Cody entered the field together, the mother's arm around her daughter's shoulder as the two talked quietly, they only separated to wave at the over-exuberant fan base who, in turn, squealed even higher as they waved back.
The sun was beating down on the crowd, humidity slowly rising, but that didn't diminish the rousing atmosphere. Eyes were glued to Alex as she made shot after shot, the action seemingly effortless even when being marked and heavily defended. The crowd could only watch as the team surrounded Mark, until they broke off into two teams.
"Ready?" Alex asked Cody as the two walked off to the other end of the field to get into poisition.
"Always." Cody grinned, fist bumping her mother.
Alex stopped up front, and Cody slotted into the midfield behind her and next to Horan. As far as anyone could see it was starters versus the rest. The crowd had cameras up and ready to capture anything they could, especially the handshakes and fist bumps between mother and daughter, which quickly spread through bubble of women's soccer.
__________Kristie pocketed her phone after checking out the latest pictures from Cody's open training session. She couldn't help but smile at how happy her girl was.
"Looking at more pictures of your girlfriend?" Sam asked, she was grinning like she knew the answer, which of course she did. She could read her sister like a book.
"Why are you here?" Kristie muttered, packing her cleats into her kitbag and leaving it at the front door.
"I wanted to spend time with my sister." Sam shrugged. "And you were oddly quiet after we won gold."
"So you were worried?"
"A little. Is that so wrong?"
Kristie sighed and sat down beside her sister. She didn't speak for five minutes despite the burning sensation at the side of her face due to her sister staring at her. The Dash pro stood, and left the room, leaving Sam confused before Kristie came back in holding a small square box, holding it out for Sam to see.
"Holy cow." Sam breathed. "I love you but no, I won't marry you."
"Shut the fuck up." Kristie grumbled. She wanted to laugh, or even smile, but just the thought exhausted her. "It's not for you."
