KASDEYA ARGYROS' Point of View
"I want you two to spar tomorrow."
Aether is standing next to me, equally frozen from her announcement.
Her words, just like her stature, are rigid and demanding. "This is to prepare you for the upcoming battle assessment of the Hellenes, where you'll be grouped together and battle against each other."
She continues, as if she's unconsciously nailing us on our places.
"As two out of the three additional members and my mentees, I need to make sure that both of you are ready. I don't want you to embarrass me by failing miserably during the assessment, so we'll have a practice round tomorrow."
I can't see him, but the silence can only be attributed to our simultaneous blinking.
"Sparring?"
"Assessment?"
Sabay namin tanong. We stare at her, dumbfounded by the sudden revelations.
Ma'am Franchesca glares at the two of us. "You two are some of the best minds within the Hellenes, but combined you have the intellectual capacity of a gnat."
Mabilis akong napakurap bago umiling. "Wait. There's going to be an assessment? Tungkol saan? Bakit ngayon lang namin narinig ang tungkol dito?" Judging by Aether's equally stunned expression, hindi rin niya alam na may ganito.
"The Hellenes has an annual exam to determine how much they grew in terms of skills, combat prowess, and mastery of their godly attribute. The higher ups use it to monitor your progress and the areas you need to improve. Every Hellenes is required to participate, unless incapacitated."
It seems sudden that the assessment is only being brought up now, pero sa rami ng mga nangyayari ngayong nakaraang araw, I imagine that it's the least of their worries.
Ngayon lang kami nagkaroon ng kaunting kapayapaan. The days are filled with daily activities, physical training, and lessons with our respective mentors.
The most eventful thing that happened was the time Paris bet against the boys in the Hellenes to see who's the most popular guy in the group. He ended up crying because he lost against River, and she's not even a guy. Turns out that the other boys ganged up on him and told everyone to vote River or something.
He even argued, with tear-stricken face, that she doesn't count because she's not a man. To which the others answered with, "Mas lalaki pa siya kaysa sa ating lahat."
Paris tried to disqualify River who couldn't care less. Everyone voted River for the laughs except one, who voted Theon.
Back to the situation at hand, looks like our standstill days are over.
"Ready yourselves. We'll meet here same time tomorrow."
Ma'am Franchesca dismisses us after. She made it clear that she doesn't want to answer anymore questions because she left immediately, leaving Aether and I on the field by ourselves.
A duel with none other than Aether Lee, the son of Hecate, and the man who is looking for a reason to hurt me.
